Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases—such as cheap online shopping platforms and the desire to show off wealth—and suggesting solutions like raising awareness via social media and parental education. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth. For instance, the mention of the app 'Shine' and celebrities wearing clothes only once serves as an example, but the explanation remains superficial. The position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the task are covered satisfactorily, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical. Phrases like 'To begin with,' 'On the other hand,' and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, but referencing is sometimes imprecise, such as 'there are many reasons behind it why people like to buy many clothes,' which creates unnecessary repetition and disrupts the flow. These features place the response firmly in the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with some attempts at less common items such as 'celebrities,' 'wealth,' and 'wastage.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'it's peek' instead of 'its peak,' 'avaliable' instead of 'available,' 'cheper' instead of 'cheaper,' 'app named Shine' (likely referring to Shein), 'Seondly' instead of 'Secondly,' 'presuded' instead of 'persuaded,' and 'awar' instead of 'aware.' These inaccuracies indicate a limited control of spelling and collocation, restricting the lexical score to a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some variety. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues that permeate the essay. Examples include subject-verb agreement errors ('everyone want' instead of 'everyone wants'), faulty relative clauses ('there are many reasons behind it why people like to buy many clothes'), and missing prepositions or auxiliary verbs ('how can people persuaded' instead of 'how can people be persuaded'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, their frequency prevents the writing from reaching a Band 6, placing it at Band 5.
