Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases (such as rapid trend changes and social media influencer culture) and offering a solution (financial education in schools). The main ideas are relevant and generally supported with an example, such as mentioning Virat Kohli and European youth programs. However, the development of ideas lacks depth in places, and some arguments are slightly repetitive or over-generalized. For instance, the link between social media and consumer behavior is stated rather than fully explored. Overall, the response covers all parts of the task satisfactorily, earning a Band 6.0 in line with descriptors that require addressing all parts with relevant ideas, even if some are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to divide the response into logical paragraphs for introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. However, cohesion is often faulty or mechanical. Words and phrases like 'The First and formost reason', 'To make it clear', and 'To coclude' display awkward transitions. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'grave this concern' in the introduction. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs suffers from repetitive phrasing and weak connective links. These issues point directly to Band 5.0, where organisation is present and progression can be followed, but cohesive devices are inaccurate or over-used, and referencing is sometimes problematic.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary appropriate to the topic, including terms like 'plethora of reasons', 'sensible solutions', and 'financially educated'. However, there are numerous spelling errors ('shooping', 'availabe', 'formost', 'arround', 'athelets', 'launch', 'examplify', 'oragnisation', 'finnacial', 'neccessary', 'coclude', 'sloved') and word-choice inaccuracies ('grave this concern' instead of 'address this concern', 'ruthlessly' instead of 'extravagantly'). These lexical errors and frequent misspellings impede readability. While the vocabulary is adequate to convey the basic message, the density of spelling and collocation errors keeps the lexical score at a Band 5.0, as noticeable errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures (e.g., 'yet some sensible solutions are also availabe to grave this concern which will be elaborated'). However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'trend changes in every few months', 'social media applications that shows', 'folks and yougsters have their specific idol they follow', and 'right education of financial money management'. Punctuation is also erratic in places. These persistent errors place the essay firmly at Band 5.0, where attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty and errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
