Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases such as social media influence and shifting fashion trends, and suggesting solutions like mindful spending. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and contains generalisations. For instance, the point regarding women buying clothes only for one time is a broad assumption and lacks deep elaboration. The position of the writer is generally clear throughout the essay, but the arguments would benefit from more specific, fully extended examples rather than brief mentions, such as the avengers costumes example which remains slightly underdeveloped. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, placing this performance at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty and mechanical. Transitional phrases like 'To initate with', 'In result', and 'In conclussion' contain spelling and grammatical errors that draw attention. Furthermore, referencing is not always clear, such as the ambiguous pronoun use in 'Other than them if industries make clothes...'. Paragraphing is used, but the logical progression between sentences within paragraphs occasionally feels disjointed, leading to a Band 5.5 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'lavishly', 'empthy', and 'delicates', but these attempts are frequently marred by spelling and word-choice errors that impede precise communication. Words like 'eassy', 'individiuals', 'influncers', 'celebraties', 'civialions', 'womens', 'adquete', and 'personaility' demonstrate persistent spelling issues. While the range is minimally adequate for discussing the topic of consumerism and clothing, the high frequency of lexical and spelling errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Therefore, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, verb forms, and prepositions, such as 'consumers packed their closets' instead of 'consumers pack', 'beacuse they priortise dresses only for one time', and 'harmful of humans' instead of 'harmful to humans'. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing apostrophes and incorrect capitalisation in places. Although the meaning can mostly be deciphered, the high density of structural and grammatical inaccuracies places this response firmly at Band 5.0.
