Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases such as changing fashion trends and the desire to show off on social media, while also suggesting solutions like raising awareness through influencers. However, the ideas are somewhat generalized and lack deep extension. Furthermore, there is a penalty to consider because the task requires a minimum of 250 words, and the student's response contains only 237 words. This under-length issue prevents the response from fully developing the arguments to reach a higher band. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed in terms of scope and depth. Band Score: 5.5

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The text is organized into four paragraphs with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover', 'for instance', and 'In order to change'. However, some referencing is imprecise, and paragraph transitions feel a bit mechanical. For example, 'The prominent reason behind the development' links back to the introduction, but the flow between sentences can be disjointed. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate for the task type. Band Score: 6.0

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, featuring terms like 'garments', 'attire', 'eagerness', and 'non profit organizations'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, but these are sometimes accompanied by spelling or word-choice errors, such as 'cahnge' instead of 'change' and 'made public spend' instead of 'make the public spend'. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'desire of showing off' instead of 'desire to show off'. Overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but errors prevent it from reaching a higher band. Band Score: 5.5

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'People spend on new styles when it comes to attire' and 'In order to change the trend and to made public spend less on apparels, awareness must be raised.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'are also attract', 'Many pf the public groups', and 'that can overcome by changing it with awareness' (passive voice misuse). Punctuation errors also appear, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('for instance'). These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. Band Score: 5.0
