Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons why people buy too many clothes and how they can be persuaded to reduce this behavior. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The reasons provided, such as the pressure of fashion, social media influence, and the fear of being judged, are relevant and extended with examples like Korean clothing trends. The solutions proposed, including awareness campaigns on social media and parental guidance, are practical and directly address the second part of the prompt. While some ideas could be explored in greater depth, the response fully satisfies the requirements of Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 for its clear task coverage.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a generally coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as "To commence with", "Moreover", and "Furthermore". However, some cohesive links feel mechanical or awkward, such as "Let us discuss in detail" and the abrupt sentence fragments like "Which ultimately maked them buy clothes". Referencing is occasionally unclear, and paragraph transitions could be smoother. Overall, the organizational structure is adequate for a Band 6, showing clear logical progression despite some flawed cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and topic-specific terms such as "symobol", "socialising", "prominant", and "environmental problems". However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including "symobol" instead of symbol, "constanly", "Individulas", "persumed", "prominant", "induldge", "presuade", "unnecssary", "adds", and "obn". These errors reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the message, but frequent inaccuracies in spelling and collocation prevent access to higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over grammar with structures like "People who want to look updated and trendy and stylish are always keen towards to shop more often." Nevertheless, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as "some people are got stuck", "keen towards to shop", fragment sentences like "Which ultimately maked them buy clothes", and incorrect prepositions. Punctuation errors also occur. These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, fitting comfortably within the Band 5.5 to 6 range where a mix of structures is offset by persistent grammatical inaccuracies.
