Student answer (Band 6.0)
Clothes are one of the essential items for people. Nowadays society uses to purchase large quantities of clothes. There are a few reasons behind this such as people are heavily influenced by social media and also to get the feeling of satisfaction by wearing different types of clothes.
To begin with, one of the main reasons is that people are influenced by the various types of social media. Fashion companies make different types of clothes and hire the content creators who have millions of followers or subscribers to promote their products. As expected, it gives a massive amount of reach which makes people to buy the promoted item. On the other hand, wearing different type of clothes will give a satisfaction. Imagine when you wear a new dress, you have a fresh feeling which makes you satisfied. This satisfaction leads to more purchases.
Furthermore, People can adopt to a minimalistic life to reduce unnecessary purchases. Have specific month of the year to take clothes. Build a habit to shop only once for each season. This will help to reduce unnecessary purchases drastically. The next fact is wash according to the instructions given by the company. It gives you an understanding how to protect the fabric without harming them. As an example, some materials should not be washed with warm water, and some are with cold water. This will prevent the fabric from damaging. This will save your money because the fabric will last longer than you expected.
In conclusion, people can reduce purchasing clothes by adopting to a minimalistic life and also washing clothes according to the given guidelines.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons why people buy excessive clothes (social media influence and the psychological satisfaction of wearing new items) and offering a solution (adopting a minimalistic lifestyle and proper garment care). The position is clear throughout the essay. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and lacks depth; for example, the second solution regarding washing instructions ('wash according to the instructions given by the company') addresses garment longevity rather than directly explaining how to persuade people to reduce the *number* of clothes they buy in the first place, shifting slightly off the central focus of reduction. Nonetheless, all parts of the prompt are touched upon, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, separating the introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion. Logical connectors are used, such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are at times mechanical or somewhat abrupt. For instance, the transition into the second half of the third paragraph regarding washing instructions lacks a smooth logical bridge back to the core theme of reducing purchases, making the cohesion feel slightly disjointed in places. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within the body paragraphs could be more seamless. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their ideas clearly. There are attempts at less common lexical items and phrases, such as 'heavily influenced', 'massive amount of reach', 'minimalistic life', and 'unnecessary purchases drastically'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward collocations, such as 'Nowadays society uses to purchase' instead of 'tend to purchase', 'different type of clothes' instead of 'types', and 'Have specific month' instead of 'Designate a specific month'. Spelling is generally correct, but word choices occasionally lack precision. This performance is characteristic of Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses ('who have millions of followers or subscribers') and conditional or hypothetical framing ('Imagine when you wear a new dress...'). However, there are persistent grammatical errors and awkward structures throughout the text, such as 'society uses to purchase', 'makes people to buy', 'wearing different type of clothes will give a satisfaction', and 'People can adopt to a minimalistic life'. Preposition errors ('adopt to' instead of 'adopt') and article omissions occur regularly. Although these errors do not severely impede overall communication, they restrict the grammar score to Band 5.5.
