Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, it has been observed that a lot individuals from some countries purchase quite a number of outfits. This can due to the pressure from society or just being a spendrift. In this essay we will discuss the reason why some people purchase too many clothes and how they can be educated to reduce the number of purchases they make.
To begin with, clothes are very essential in our daily lives. For every occasion, it is important to dress appropriately to suit the event. There are a variety of clothes for weddings , clothes, funerals adn many more. Although clothes are a basic need, some people especially, young adults buy more clothes than they need. This is as a result of pressure from society including the media. At a certain age, individuals are prone to influence from peers hence the motivation acquire clothes similar to their peers. When I was teenager back in high school, my parents used purchase my clothes but I thoght they were old fashioned and I secretly used my savings to buy expensive outfits. This was as a result of pressure my friends who used to make fun of my clothes.I later realized I had more clothes than I actually needed.
Furthermore, another cause is lack of financial literacy.A number of people lack the understanding on how to budget and spend wisely. They tend to waste money on whatever they desire. To solve this problem,I strongly believe young adults should be educated on financial literacy and taught to be content with what they have.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the task: the reasons why people buy too many clothes, such as social pressure and financial illiteracy, and how they can be educated to reduce their purchases. The position is generally clear throughout, and the ideas are supported by relevant personal experience, as seen when the writer notes, 'When I was teenager back in high school, my parents used purchase my clothes but I thoght they were old fashioned.' However, some ideas are a bit brief and could be further extended to fully meet the higher band criteria. Overall, all parts of the prompt are addressed adequately, placing this comfortably in the band 6 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a discernible introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion, though the introduction contains a slightly abrupt transition into the body. Paragraphing is used, although the main body is concentrated into one long block of text rather than being broken down into separate paragraphs for each main idea. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Although', and 'Furthermore' are used to connect ideas, but referencing and linking are sometimes mechanical or slightly faulty. For example, the sentence 'This can due to the pressure' contains a missing verb. Logical progression is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for band 6.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their ideas about fashion, social pressure, and financial literacy. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary and phrases, such as 'financial literacy' and 'spendrift' (though misspelled). However, there are notable spelling errors and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, including 'individuals' spelled as 'individuals', 'spendrift' instead of 'spendthrift', 'thoght' instead of 'thought', and 'motivation acquire' instead of 'motivation to acquire'. These errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score to a band 5.5 or 6.0, best represented here at 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like concessive clauses ('Although clothes are a basic need...') and relative clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing verbs ('This can due to'), missing prepositions, and spacing issues after commas and periods. For instance, 'There are a variety of clothes for weddings , clothes, funerals adn many more.' and 'pressure my friends' lack necessary grammatical elements. Despite these errors, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is not severely impeded, aligning well with the band 5.5 descriptors, rounded to 5.5.
