Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why people buy excessive clothes (affordability and fashion) and suggesting how this can be reduced (raising environmental awareness). However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and occasionally shifts focus. For instance, in the third paragraph, the discussion pivots towards the environmental dangers of burning clothes rather than directly explaining practical ways to persuade people to buy less, though environmental awareness is implied as a deterrent. The position is generally clear, but some ideas are slightly under-developed. Therefore, it fits the Band 6 descriptor well, as it addresses all parts of the task with relevant ideas, though some parts could be more fully extended.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay has a coherent overall arrangement and is divided into logical paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. However, cohesion at the sentence level is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, transitional phrases like 'This is because in the past clothes are expensive' and 'Another reason is fashion' are a bit formulaic, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as 'this is a serious problem' in the conclusion where the antecedent is broad. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate the introduction, reasons, solutions, and conclusion. This demonstrates the characteristics of Band 6, where the overall structure works, but cohesive devices and referencing show occasional lapses.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms like 'affordability', 'sophisticated', 'environment', and 'impulsive buying'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'somereason' instead of 'some reason', 'cheper' instead of 'cheaper', 'relese' instead of 'release', and 'attaire' instead of 'attire'. Less common vocabulary is attempted with some inaccuracy, which places the response securely at Band 6. The errors do not severely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score by preventing fluent and precise usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'This essay will discuss reasons for this trend with solutions to reduce the clothes waste' and 'Everyone wants to follow actors an actresses as they are role model for society.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses ('in the past clothes are expensive'), article usage, subject-verb agreement ('People needs to be'), and pluralisation ('In many part of the world'). While these errors are noticeable and detract from accuracy, the meaning remains largely clear, making this a solid representative of Band 5, where a limited range of structures and frequent errors persist.
