Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing reasons for excessive clothing purchases such as social media influence and climate, and suggesting solutions like government taxation. However, the ideas are underdeveloped and the essay suffers from a severe under-length penalty, containing only 204 words against the required 250-word minimum. The conclusion is incomplete, trailing off abruptly after the second solution. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, earning a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay displays some organizational structure, with an introduction, body paragraphs, and an attempt at a final section. However, the progression is disrupted by the abrupt ending of the text and mechanical use of cohesive devices like 'The first and foremost reason' and 'Moreover'. Paragraphing is partially neglected, as the conclusion runs into incomplete thoughts. Referencing is mostly clear, but the lack of a fully developed conclusion and the incomplete final sentence limit the overall coherence to a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary with words like 'minimise', 'atmosphere', and 'consequenly', but encounters several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'Purchasing number of clothing items', 'must obliged', 'Consequenly', and 'prducts'. While meaning is generally conveyed for the most part, the limited range and noticeable errors place this performance firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'Social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook are the primary cause, from which people get to know about trending outfits.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles and incorrect verb forms like 'citizens must obliged to purchase' and 'Government should imposed high amount'. These errors can cause occasional difficulty for the reader, matching the Band 5.0 descriptors.
