Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by identifying reasons why people buy excessive clothes, such as fast-moving fashion trends, heavy advertising, and enticing discounts. It also offers relevant solutions, including raising environmental awareness and creating shopping lists. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are supported with logical reasoning and examples, such as reference to social media influencers and 'buy one get one free' sales. However, some arguments lack deeper extension, placing the writing comfortably within Band 6.5 to 7. The student covers all necessary prompt requirements adequately, showing a clear understanding of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay displays a logical overall organization with a recognizable introduction, body paragraphs addressing distinct points, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'One major reason', 'Another reason', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as in the sentence 'This habit cab be reduced by bringing awareness amog individuals and responsible shopping habits.' Additionally, minor mechanical punctuation issues occur, such as a stray full stop in the fourth paragraph ('In addition. they should be educated...'). Progression is clear, but cohesion could be smoother and more flexible for a higher band.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'fashion trends', 'advertising', 'discounts', and 'environment'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'influencer', 'communities', and 'production', but these are accompanied by notable spelling, word choice, and morphological errors. Examples include 'cab' instead of 'can', 'amog' instead of 'among', 'advertise' used as a noun instead of 'advertisements', and 'istead' instead of 'instead'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional-style constructions and relative clauses ('people may buy clothes after watching advertise on instagram or YouTube videos and they are stop wearing them'). There is a noticeable frequency of grammatical errors, particularly concerning verb tenses ('fashion become a popular', 'they are stop wearing'), prepositions, and voice ('People shoud be encourage and explain about their productions'). While the meaning remains comprehensible throughout, the density of grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.5 or higher.
