Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, in some parts of the world, individuals buy more clothes than they need. This is due to the change in the fashion trends and affordable clothing. There are several ways to encourage people to reduce the number of clothes they buy.
To begin with, although clothes are cheap and easily available, many people tends to purchase more than they actually need. Moreover, with the influence of social media people wants to follow the celebrities and influencers and they end up buying the things they do not require. Furthermore, frequent sales and discounted prices also leads to unnecessary shopping. For instance, online stores constantly advertise new collections and discounts, which can encourage people to purchase when they already have enough. Thus, these are be some of the reasons people get encouraged to buy more.
There are some measures to reduce it such as educating people about the unnecessary wastage of textile and environmental damages. Moreover, people should be encouraged to opt for recycling and donating their old clothes. Furthermore, people should set their monthly budget for clothing and avoid impluse purchases. For instance, on social media platforms people should influence buyers to normalise wearing same clothes for second time rather than buying something new everytime. Thus, these are some of the ways to persuade the reduction in number of clothes people purchase.
To put this in a nutshell, the excessive purchasing of clothes is mainly caused by cheap trends and discounted advertisements. However, with the responsible shopping habbits and awareness of recycling and donating can help people to reduce unnecessary clothing purchases.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons for excessive clothing purchases and offering actionable solutions. In the first body paragraph, the student explores reasons such as changing fashion trends, the influence of social media influencers, and frequent sales in online stores. The second body paragraph outlines practical ways to reduce consumption, including educating the public about textile waste, promoting recycling and donating, and setting monthly budgets. While the ideas are relevant and supported with clear examples like online stores constantly advertising new collections, some points are slightly generalized and could benefit from further depth to reach higher band levels. Nevertheless, a clear position and focus are maintained throughout, fully satisfying the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. The essay is divided into four distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing each part of the prompt respectively, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to guide the reader through the text, such as "To begin with," "Moreover," and "Furthermore." However, some cohesive referencing and transitions are a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as starting multiple consecutive sentences with "Moreover" and "Furthermore." Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct themes, but greater flexibility in managing cohesive ties would elevate this score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully incorporating terms like "affordable clothing," "unnecessary shopping," "textile and environmental damages," and "impulse purchases." Less common vocabulary is attempted with reasonable success, such as "influence of social media" and "frequent sales and discounted prices." However, there are occasional word choice and spelling inaccuracies, such as writing "habbits" instead of "habits" and phrasing like "persuade the reduction." While these errors do not impede communication, they reflect a Band 6 level where vocabulary is adequate but occasionally imprecise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The student utilizes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures. Examples like "For instance, online stores constantly advertise new collections and discounts, which can encourage people to purchase when they already have enough" showcase complex sentence building. However, there are several grammatical errors scattered throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ("many people tends" instead of "tend"), pronoun usage errors ("people wants" instead of "want"), and awkward phrasing like "these are be some of the reasons." These errors occur with some frequency, though they rarely impede overall communication, placing the response firmly in the Band 6 category.
