Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt by identifying the key reasons for excessive clothing consumption, such as social media advertising, discounts, and trends, and by offering practical solutions like consumer education and sustainable habits. The position is clear throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant, extended, and supported with appropriate examples, such as mentioning fashion companies promoting collections through influencers and encouraging the purchase of durable garments. Although some ideas could be slightly more deeply developed to reach the highest bands, the task is fully covered, demonstrating a clear understanding of the requirements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and solutions respectively, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. A variety of cohesive devices is employed to guide the reader through the text, such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', 'Another contributing factor', and 'Firstly'. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty, as seen in minor awkward transitions like 'Thus, aforementioned reasons, people the more purchased clothes', which slightly disrupts the smooth progression of ideas. Overall, the arrangement is coherent and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'consumer behaviour', 'excessive amounts', 'environmental and financial consequences', and 'sustainable shopping habits'. However, there are several noticeable lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, including 'rapid the world' instead of 'rapid world', 'clothings' (uncountable noun used as plural), 'conusmption', 'producations', and 'thoughful'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the score from reaching a higher band due to inaccuracies in word formation and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors in grammar and sentence structure, such as 'buying clothes has become a significant role' (collocation/grammar error), 'shops are keeps clothes on discounts that are more attract consumers to buy its without needed it', and 'people the more purchased clothes'. Punctuation and word order issues also occur. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to place the writing firmly in the Band 6 category.
