Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the task, discussing the reasons why people buy too many clothes and suggesting ways to reduce this behavior. A clear position is maintained throughout the essay. The reasons are supported by relevant explanations and examples, such as the influence of social media and celebrities like 'Neeru Bajwa'. However, some ideas could be further extended, and the development is occasionally limited by simplistic reasoning. Despite this, all parts of the prompt are covered sufficiently, earning this response a solid Band 6.0 according to the task response descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes and solutions. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'Furthermore', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, some referencing is slightly mechanical or repetitive, and logical progression between sentences can feel abrupt at times (e.g., 'People are being materialistic and follwing trends. However, people can purchase few clothes and save money.'). Overall, the logical structure meets the criteria for Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'materialistic', 'awareness compaigns', and 'money management courese'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'follwing' instead of following, 'few clothes' instead of fewer clothes, 'compaigns' instead of campaigns, and 'courese' instead of courses. These lexical inaccuracies and typos slightly detract from the overall quality, though they do not impede communication, placing the response at a Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response exhibits a mix of simple and complex sentence forms. The writer attempts various structures, such as conditional and subordinate clauses, but encounters grammatical errors. Examples include 'buying clothes in the large quantity', 'what their role models wearing', 'cause wastage of money' (instead of causing), and 'invest this money' (instead of investing). While punctuation and basic grammar are mostly under control, frequent minor errors in articles, prepositions, and verb forms demonstrate the characteristics of Band 5.5, rounding to Band 6.0 given the successful communication of ideas.
