Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why people buy too many clothes and suggesting ways to reduce consumption. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat superficial. For instance, the reasons given, such as 'attracting throught brand' and 'influence by celebrities', are stated rather than fully explained or exemplified with strong detail. The introduction includes a slight misunderstanding or misphrasing regarding agreement with the statement. Overall, while all parts of the task are touched upon, the lack of deeper extension and support places this performance in the Band 5 to 6 range.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
Paragraphing is attempted, with distinct sections for the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, which provides a basic structural framework. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, repetitive phrasing, and fragmented sentences, such as listing solutions with imperative fragments like 'Educate people...' without proper cohesive links. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and cohesive devices are used mechanically. While the overall arrangement shows an attempt at organisation, the execution suffers from frequent cohesion failures, fitting the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent word-choice and collocation errors (e.g., 'oftenly' instead of 'often', 'attract by' instead of 'attracted to', 'wxcessive' instead of 'excessive'). Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'meritorious aspects' and 'consumption', but they are often used inaccurately or inappropriately in context. While the message remains generally understandable despite these lexical limitations, the vocabulary range is restricted and noticeably flawed, aligning with Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences and error-prone attempts at complex structures. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay, including incorrect verb tenses and forms (e.g., 'can worn' instead of 'can be worn', 'celebraties' spelling/form issues), missing prepositions, and faulty subject-verb agreement. Run-on sentences and punctuation issues also occur. Because these frequent errors cause noticeable difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places, the performance meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
