Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases (such as rapid fashion changes, social events like marriages and festivals) and suggesting ways people can be persuaded to reduce this behavior (such as environmental awareness and celebrity influence). However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on festivals and weddings briefly mentions people not liking to repeat clothes, but this point is not fully expanded with deeper elaboration. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments tend to be superficial. This performance aligns well with Band 6, where all parts of the task are addressed, but some ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an overall coherent arrangement. However, referencing and logical transitions are often faulty or mechanical. For example, expressions like 'sircumstances which are elaborated in forthcoming paragraphs with how to explain them to avoid to so' are awkward and impede smooth progression. Cohesive devices are occasionally used inappropriately, and pronoun referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'they may got influenced and avoid to buy more' where the referents become confusing. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion lacks flexibility, placing the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for communicating basic ideas related to the topic, but it is limited and marred by numerous spelling and word-choice errors. Examples include 'sircumstances', 'peple', 'cloths' (instead of clothes), 'instence', 'nerrow pents', 'beggy pents', 'fastivals', 'ocassions', and 'celibrities'. The writer attempts less common phrases like 'contemporary era' and 'environmental perspectives', but the high frequency of lexical inaccuracies and misspelling of basic words restricts the score to Band 5. Communication is sometimes strained by these repeated vocabulary and spelling lapses.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and relative clauses. However, grammatical accuracy is weak throughout the text. There are frequent errors in verb forms, prepositions, and sentence construction, such as 'many people are buying so much more clothes than they actually need', 'peple now becoming aware', 'Fashion of cloths always tend to change', and 'human needs to understand to stop this'. Punctuation is also problematic, evidenced by stray commas and run-on structures. These persistent errors frequently cause difficulty for the reader, placing the performance at Band 5.
