Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt by discussing reasons for buying too many clothes and suggesting ways people can be persuaded to reduce this behavior. The ideas are relevant and generally developed, such as mentioning digital media, marketing campaigns, and social media influencers as causes, and proposing budgeting, donating, and investing in education as solutions. However, some arguments lack full extension and rely on simple assertions rather than deep elaboration. For instance, the discussion of online shopping is somewhat superficial. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout, satisfying the requirements for Band 6.5 to 7.0. Given the solid coverage of all prompt requirements, a score of 6.5 is well justified.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is utilized, though body paragraphing is slightly dense and could be broken down further to separate reasons from solutions more clearly. Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'To begin with', 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', but some transitions feel mechanical or repetitive, such as 'Furthermore' and 'Moreover' placed consecutively. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in sentences like 'In those cases, people wasting their money...' where the grammatical connection is weak. Progression is generally maintained, placing this squarely within the Band 6 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, including terms like 'fast-paced world', 'promotional campaigns', 'accessible', and 'compelling reason'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and awkward collocations throughout the text, such as 'get up to date fashion clothes', 'websites plays' (agreement slip), 'make the girls tempting', 'showoff', and 'stacked them'. Spelling and word-choice errors do not impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score. The use of less common vocabulary is attempted with some inaccuracy, pointing directly to a Band 6 level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over structure. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors that recur throughout the text. Examples include punctuation and capitalization errors in the opening ('Now a days, In this fast-paced world'), missing articles ('websites plays a vital role'), tense inconsistencies ('make the girls tempting'), and awkward verb structures ('people should have to buy'). While meaning is generally clear despite these slips, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies prevents the essay from reaching Band 6.5, making Band 6.0 the most appropriate descriptor.
