Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons why people buy too many clothes and suggesting ways people can be persuaded to reduce their purchases. The student provides relevant ideas, such as changing lifestyle requirements for work, sports, and social events, as well as the influence of social media and fashion trends. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and the explanations tend to be brief and repetitive. Solutions are offered, such as changing school dress codes and workplace requirements, but they lack depth and clear extension. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 5.5, which balances partial development with relevant points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay has a recognizable structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, though the paragraphing is somewhat erratic, as seen in the isolated third paragraph. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'Same like that for the parties' and 'Further more'. Logical progression is sometimes hindered by abrupt transitions and sentences that do not flow smoothly into one another, such as starting a new paragraph with 'People have to minimize the habit...'. Referencing and pronouns are occasionally unclear, making the overall flow choppy. These features align with the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, featuring frequent spelling errors such as 'fashonable', 'bacuse', 'employess', and grammatical word-choice issues like 'dressing sense what they wear' and 'same article'. While the student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'influencers' and 'ceremony', inaccuracies in collocation and word formation are noticeable and occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic points, placing the response firmly at Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control is weak. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('people attracts', 'many people follows', 'school have'), punctuation errors, and awkward clause structures, such as 'which i will discuss in the coming paragraph.' Run-on sentences and fragments appear throughout the text. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader at times, matching the characteristics of a Band 5.0 performance.
