Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this contemporary era, people are buying more and more clothes frequently without giving a second thought. Influence of social media and easy access to services are the main factors behind this trend. This can be changed by campaigns and awareness about the drawbacks and effects on the environment.

To begin with, people are following social media and influencers blindly. To imitate themselves like their faviourite celebrity they buy same clothes. Also some people like follow trend and keep their profile up to date on online platforms they keep buying expensive and different types of clothes. The rest of the individuals want to be included in the society so they do have to purchase clothes to become part of it. For instance, in teenagers party they want everyone to wear themed clothes if anyone fails to do that they are not allowed to enter. As a result, the pressure makes them to buy more and more number of clothes.

The solution to this issue can be resolved with the help of social media itself allong with some input from the government. Celebrities and influencial indivuals should be spreading the awareness that wearing the same clothes is not being outdated by following the same thought themselves. Government should run campaigns to aware people about the side effects of waste clothes on the environment. This should not be done not only at the school level but for the adult individuals as well that how they should think before buying unnecessary clothes. For instance, if one celebrety states on news that he wears his old clothes many time their fans start following the same and they do not feel bad about it.

To conclude, the problem of impusive buying of clothes is increasing but with regulated steps and awareness in collaboration with the government and celebrities it be be reduced.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task adequately. For the first part, the student identifies reasons for buying too many clothes, such as social media influence, peer pressure, and the desire to stay updated with trends, supporting this with a relevant example about teenagers and themed parties. For the second part, suggestions are provided on how people can be reduced from buying excessive clothes, primarily through government campaigns and influencers promoting sustainability. However, some ideas lack full extension and contain slight generalisations. The position is clear throughout, and the main tenets of the prompt are covered, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor where all parts are addressed though some areas remain somewhat under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing reasons and solutions respectively, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate main ideas. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To begin with' and 'The solution to this issue can be resolved' are somewhat awkward or repetitive, and referencing in sentences such as 'To imitate themselves like their faviourite celebrity they buy same clothes' creates minor tracking issues. Logical progression is present, but the management of cohesive devices places the performance firmly at Band 6.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate their main ideas successfully. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'contemporary era', 'impulsive buying', and 'sustainability-related concepts', but these are accompanied by noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'faviourite' instead of favourite, 'allong' instead of along, 'inflouencial' or 'influencial' instead of influential, and 'celebrety'. Collocations are occasionally unnatural, such as 'imitates themselves like'. These lexical inaccuracies do not seriously impede communication, matching the criteria for Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('if one celebrity states on news...'). However, there is a persistent presence of grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including missing articles ('Influence of social media', 'on news'), preposition errors ('aware people about' instead of make people aware of), and punctuation slips ('it be be reduced'). While these errors occur frequently throughout the text, they rarely impede overall comprehension, reflecting the standard characteristics of a Band 6 performance.
