Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the task by discussing reasons for excessive clothing purchases—such as social media influence and trend-following—and suggesting solutions like public awareness campaigns and sustainable shopping. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on generation Z and influencers overlaps significantly, and the solutions are stated rather than fully extended. While the writer attempts to provide examples, such as 'a person may see a new outfit promoted on Instagram', the overall depth aligns with a Band 6 level, as some parts of the response lack thorough exploration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays an overall logical structure with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the response is divided into paragraphs. However, cohesive devices are frequently faulty or mechanical, and paragraphing is occasionally problematic (such as combining multiple solutions and examples without clear separation). Capitalisation and punctuation errors at the start of sentences—for example, 'firstly, is very common factor' and 'secondly,Influencers'—disrupt the flow. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'other thing donate unwanted items to slums'. Progression is evident, but the structural flaws place this at a Band 5.5, rounded to 5.0 due to mechanical cohesion issues.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases like 'excessive amount of clothing', 'public awareness campaigns', and 'overconsumption'. However, there are numerous noticeable word-choice, collocation, and form errors throughout the text, such as 'which are most styling', 'point of you' instead of 'point of view', 'fashion enthusiastic', and 'clothing conception'. These errors and awkward phrasings sometimes cause strain for the reader, placing the lexical control firmly at Band 5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, but grammatical control is weak. There are frequent errors in basic sentence structure, article usage, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation—for example, 'is very common factor for generation Z' (missing subject), 'people wants' (agreement error), and missing capitalisation at the start of sentences ('firstly', 'secondly', 'however'). While the meaning can generally be extracted, these frequent errors cause difficulty and prevent the response from achieving a higher band.
