Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases such as social media, following celebrities, and changing styles, and suggesting solutions like school uniforms and shifting habits. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times repetitive or unclear, such as the vague mention that schools and colleges cause people to buy clothes. The writer attempts to present a position, but the expression of ideas lacks depth and adequate support, aligning the response with Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, although the logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and repetitive phrasing. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inadequately, with phrases like 'To begin with', 'Further more', and 'Other side' acting as basic signposts. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion is weak, resulting in a somewhat disjointed structure that matches the Band 5 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, frequently relying on simple words like 'clothes', 'money', and 'buy'. There are notable word choice and collocation errors, such as 'getting too many clothes' and 'follow atheletes not to follows celebrities'. Less common lexical items are attempted but misused or incorrectly formed, which occasionally strains the reader's comprehension, placing the lexical control firmly at Band 4.5 to 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but these are frequently faulty. Numerous grammatical errors are present throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues like 'Many nations people like' and 'some are just gets bored', alongside tense and article inaccuracies. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader and prevent the grammar score from rising above Band 4.5.
