Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the task: the reasons for buying too many clothes and how people can be persuaded to reduce this behavior. The introduction outlines the writer's intent, and the body paragraphs touch upon social media influence and awareness campaigns. However, the development of ideas is limited and somewhat repetitive. For example, the arguments regarding social media and polyester waste are introduced but lack deeper elaboration, relying on generalized statements rather than fully extended supporting details. Additionally, some statistical references lack contextual clarity. Overall, the response meets the prompt's requirements for addressing all parts, earning a Band 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing a basic structural arrangement. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions, such as repeating 'To commence with' for the second body paragraph instead of indicating a contrast or a new point. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, such as 'To explicate it' and 'For an instance.' Paragraphing is attempted, but the conclusion is underdeveloped, consisting of only two sentences that summarize the main points rather abruptly. These limitations in logical progression and cohesive management place the response at Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, including words like 'celebrities', 'campaigns', 'environment', and 'atmosphere'. However, there are numerous noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'imcressing' for increasing, 'origins' for parts, 'resons' for reasons, 'harmfull' for harmful, and 'incereased' for increased. These lexical inaccuracies and non-standard collocations ('shopping things by seeing on internet') cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited, minimally adequate range, fitting the Band 5.0 descriptor.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'To start with, there are so many resons behind buying alot of clothes everyday but social media is one of the big reason.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('brands posting', 'shopping is also become'), article usage ('a big reason', 'biggest risk'), and preposition choice ('convince people towards there product'). Punctuation and sentence structures often lead to strain for the reader, and complex structures frequently contain errors. This performance aligns with Band 5.0.
