Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt: reasons for buying excessive clothes and how to reduce this behavior. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear. The writer mentions reasons such as sales promotions and a desire to maintain a social standard among government employees. The solution part is somewhat vague, suggesting that people 'should be overcomed or prevented on this situation' without offering concrete policy or personal strategies for reduction. While a position is presented, the arguments remain under-developed and lack the depth expected for higher bands. Overall, the performance aligns with the Band 5 descriptors, as the task is addressed, but the ideas lack full extension and clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organized into paragraphs with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some overall structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and abrupt transitions. For instance, moving from discount promotions to government employees lacks smooth cohesive linking. Cohesive devices are used minimally or inaccurately, such as 'on my working place' and 'on the other hand' used repetitively and sometimes incorrectly. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is often faulty, causing the reader to pause. This falls under the Band 5 criteria due to the lack of clear overall progression and inadequate use of cohesive devices.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'prefer to purchasing', 'Garments', 'mosre', 'cloths', 'garnments', 'overheming', 'form', 'earong', and 'effected' instead of affected. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'promotions', 'economical point of view', and 'budget', but these are undermined by systematic lexical errors and incorrect collocations like 'living standard' instead of a high standard of living. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but errors in word formation and spelling place this firmly at Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on the positive interpretation of basic communicative success.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty and ungrammatical, such as 'there is described about cause of mosre purchasing' and 'demand of new cloths on every new event, can can make burden'. There are persistent errors in punctuation, capitalization (e.g., 'World', 'Garments', 'Government'), and article usage. Subject-verb agreement is also problematic, as seen in 'most of the Government employees having standard' and 'some developed countries having better'. These frequent grammatical errors cause significant difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of Band 4.0, though the basic meaning can sometimes be inferred.
