Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons for excessive clothing purchases (trends and discounts) and suggesting solutions (awareness classes and taxation). The writer maintains a clear position throughout the essay. However, the ideas are somewhat limited in their development and tend to be generalized, as seen in the paragraphs explaining trends and discounts without deep elaboration. This performance fits the Band 6 descriptor, where all parts are addressed with relevant ideas, but some are under-developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs marked by transition words such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly', and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty, and referencing is not always clear, as observed in phrases like 'due to this trend shift cause to buy new clothes' and 'This trend can tackle by'. These issues prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. The organization is logical overall, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'phenomenon', 'discounted price', and 'fashionable items'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'discuess', 'larg amount', 'infulncing', 'impliment', and 'awaress', which occasionally distract the reader. Despite these inaccuracies, communication is not impeded. This performance corresponds to Band 6, featuring an adequate range and attempts at less common vocabulary accompanied by some errors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Individuals like to wear the dresses with the current fashion followed by the society, due to this trend shift cause to buy new clothes.' However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('in some country'), subject-verb agreement issues ('this will enable', 'programmes might be change'), and passive voice errors ('This trend can tackle by'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they demonstrate inconsistent control over complex structures, placing the grammar at a Band 5.
