Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by identifying clear reasons for excessive clothing consumption, such as fast fashion and digital marketing, and proposing viable solutions involving environmental education and sustainable habits. The position is clear throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and supported with appropriate examples, such as the mention of 'clothing hauls' on TikTok and the fast fashion business model. While some points could be slightly more deeply elaborated, the development is sufficient for a band 6.5 or 7.0 level. Overall, the prompt requirements are fully met, and the arguments flow logically toward addressing both the causes and the solutions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs addressing causes and solutions respectively, and concluding with a summary. However, there are notable mechanical flaws in cohesion and formatting, such as missing spaces after punctuation marks (e.g., 'needs. This', 'brands like Zara nad shein', 'education and structure change is required.first'). Cohesive devices are used, but referencing is occasionally loose, and capitalization errors at the start of sentences and names detract from the overall flow. Despite these mechanical issues, the underlying organizational structure remains coherent and easy to follow, allowing for a clear progression of ideas from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a range of vocabulary suitable for the topic, incorporating terms such as 'consumerism,' 'unprecedented peak,' 'ecological footprint,' and 'sustainable.' However, there are frequent spelling errors (e.g., 'unprecendented,' 'sustainble,' 'extrlemely,' 'ecouaging,' 'prurchasing,' 'compaigndetailing') and word-form inaccuracies (e.g., 'structure change' instead of 'structural change,' 'dozen of water' instead of 'gallons/litres of water' or 'a great deal of water'). While the range is adequate to convey the intended meaning, these lexical slips and spelling mistakes prevent the vocabulary score from reaching higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, attempting various subordinate clauses and participial phrases (e.g., 'Encouraging high quality long-lasting clother rather than buying cheap ones...'). However, there are persistent grammatical errors, particularly missing articles, subject-verb agreement issues (e.g., 'government and environmental organization must launche'), and punctuation errors including missing periods, incorrect lowercase starts to sentences, and hyphenation issues. Although communication is not seriously impeded and the writer demonstrates an ability to construct complex thoughts, the density of basic structural and mechanical errors keeps the score at a band 5.5.
