Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the reasons for excessive clothing purchases (such as fashion trends and social media influence) and suggesting solutions (such as thoughtful purchasing and government rules). However, the ideas are somewhat limited and under-developed, lacking sufficient depth or specific real-world examples beyond general statements. Furthermore, the length requirement has NOT been met, as the response contains only 237 words against the minimum requirement of 250 words. This under-length impacts the overall development and completeness of the task, resulting in a score of 5.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a basic overall structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, though the conclusion is incomplete and abruptly cut off. Paragraphing is attempted, but transitions are somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', 'Firstly', 'Secondly'). Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in the introduction with the phrase 'and will expalin in upcoming paragraphs'. While there is a logical flow to the ideas presented, the faulty cohesion and lack of a complete concluding paragraph warrant a band score of 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'fashion freak', 'up to date', and 'impose some rules'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'Nowdays', 'influncers', 'resloved', 'expalin', 'eager' (used instead of 'encourage' or 'prompt'), and 'enivronment'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations slightly impede communication at times, leading to a band score of 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses ('Although people have enough clothes... yet they want...') and conditional or result clauses. However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('This trend have some reasons'), tense inconsistencies ('the buy the similar clothes'), and missing prepositions or articles. These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing the grammar performance firmly at a band 5.0.
