Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding the reasons for excessive clothes buying and how people can be persuaded to reduce it. However, the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence during the third paragraph ("To give them right education for..."). Additionally, the word count requirement of 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 233 words. Because the text is truncated and fails to fully develop the second part of the task, ideas remain under-developed and the position is not fully explored, placing this performance in Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay displays some basic organization with an introductory paragraph, a body paragraph discussing reasons, and an incomplete concluding sequence. However, overall progression is disrupted by the abrupt ending. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or misused, such as "I totaly agree" and transitions like "First and foremost reason... is items are too cheap." Paragraphing is attempted, but the final section is incomplete and fails to form a cohesive conclusion. These organizational flaws and mechanical cohesion limit the response to a Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for a basic attempt at the task, featuring terms like "fast-fashion," "versatile items," and "sustainability." However, there is a limited range with noticeable errors in word choice, form, and collocation, such as "cheap price" instead of low prices, "people influence by" instead of influenced by, and "really waste" instead of a real waste. Spelling errors such as "totaly" and "definately" also appear. These limitations restrict the score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and attempting-complex sentence structures, but control is inconsistent. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing articles ("on very low price"), incorrect passive voice formation ("people influence by"), and subject-verb agreement issues ("items are too cheap. we can find..."). Furthermore, capitalization and punctuation are occasionally neglected. Because errors are frequent and can cause some difficulty for the reader—culminating in an incomplete sentence—a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
