Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response successfully addresses both parts of the prompt by identifying reasons for excessive clothing purchases, such as social pressure and social media influence, and by proposing practical solutions like budgeting and environmental awareness. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the example of the girl buying trendy blue jeans illustrates the point well, but the explanation lacks deeper analysis regarding broader consumerist trends. To reach a higher level, the ideas need more thorough elaboration and deeper insight into the psychological or economic drivers behind fast fashion consumption.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the causes in the second paragraph and the solutions in the third. Cohesive devices are employed to guide the reader, though some referencing and transitional links feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, such as the repeated use of 'The first reason' and 'The first solution'. To improve further, a wider variety of cohesive tools and smoother referencing between sentences would create a more natural and seamless progression of ideas throughout the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas clearly regarding consumer habits and solutions. There are successful attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary such as 'unwanted purchases', 'detrimental effect', and 'budget'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'occation' instead of 'occasion', 'cloth' instead of 'clothes', 'critcise' instead of 'criticism', and 'availble' instead of 'available'. Furthermore, reliance on simpler lexical items limits the precision of the argument. Incorporating a broader range of less common lexical items with correct collocations and accurate spelling would elevate this aspect of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, demonstrating an ability to form multi-clause sentences such as 'Although pressure from community is one of the reasons which can influence people to buy many clothes...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several noticeable errors involving verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and articles, including 'The question that how many clothes...', 'people require to wear', 'many individuals can influence by', and 'she go and buy'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to distract the reader. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and meticulous proofreading for basic grammatical slips are necessary for advancement.
