Student answer (Band 6.0)
In certain parts of the world, people buy way to many clothes than what they actually need. This essay will discuss the reasons for this and how people can be persuaded to minimize the number of clothes they buy.
One of the many reasons why people buy more clothings is due to the urge to keep in touch with current fashion trends. A lot of fashion brands release many new designs and get celebrities to market them on a monthly basis. People want to be seen as up to date and not old fashioned, so they purhcase every new release and this leads to having so many clothes. In addition, the culture of donating used wears to the less priviledged such as orphanages is not common. Giving out the excess will not only help reduce the quantity but also make provision for those that cannot afford it.
People can be encouraged to buy less number of clothes by educating them about the implication of having too many of these fabrics in the environment. Majority of the materials used in making our everyday clothes are synthetic and plastic. When they are not properly discarded, they do not decompose with time because, they are not organic. They become pollution to the environment that can be harmful if consumed by animals. Moreover, the organic wool materials come from animals such as sheep, these animals have to be protected too, to avoid recurrent removal of their wools.
In conclusion, the over possession of clothes around some parts of the world is caused by the desire to constantly be up to date with fashion trends and the lack of giving habits, this can be prevented by public enlightenment regarding the negative implication of this behaviour to the environment and animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response successfully addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the reasons for excessive clothing purchases and solutions for reducing them. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on fashion trends and marketing is fairly well elaborated, whereas the point about donation habits is rather brief and somewhat tangential to why people buy clothes in the first place, shifting instead to how excess clothes can be managed. To reach a higher band, all parts of the prompt require equally thorough extension, support, and clear real-world examples without introducing extraneous sub-topics that dilute the central focus.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the four-paragraph structure is logical and appropriate for the task. Ideas flow reasonably well from causes to solutions. However, the use of cohesive devices is at times slightly mechanical, with referencing that could be smoother to guide the reader effortlessly through the arguments. While it demonstrates strong foundational organizational traits typical of the lower band, moving up to the next level requires a more flexible and varied application of cohesive links and more seamless transitions between sentences and paragraphs to establish a clear logical progression throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating the main ideas. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'synthetic', 'decompose', and 'enlightenment', which shows an effort to vary language. Nevertheless, there are noticeable lexical errors, awkward word choices, and spelling mistakes, such as writing 'way to many' instead of 'way too many', 'clothings' instead of 'clothing', 'purhcase' instead of 'purchase', 'priviledged' instead of 'privileged', and 'wears' instead of 'wear'. These errors do not impede overall communication, but they prevent the writing from achieving a higher band, which requires greater precision in word choice, correct word forms, and accurate spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The essay employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an ability to construct multi-clause sentences such as 'People want to be seen as up to date and not old fashioned, so they purhcase every new release.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including preposition usage and article omissions, such as 'reduce less number of clothes', 'implication of having too many of these fabrics in the environment', and run-on structures like comma splices ('...with time because, they are not organic.'). These errors rarely impede communication, placing the response securely at this level. To improve, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and exercise tighter control over punctuation.
