Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some proportional of population across the globe buy enormous amount of cloth in daily routine. Since two decades, fashion industry has shown unprecedented growth. This growth directy reflects to people's habit towards the shopping of cloths. This phenomenon must be taken under control as it imbalances the ecosystem of clothing habits.

Social media is the prime reason behind this trend. Social media provides platform to their users to show-case their personality and fashion sense. People use to present them in different outfits in front of their followers. Celebrities use to do photoshoots with distinct attires. A blind follower usually feels motivated from those photoshoots to buy same cloths even though they are not affordable. Such mindset encourage people to buy more and more new cloths. Another key factor is modern business models. Many brands are forcing to launch new outfits on a reglar period of time. For instance, ZARA works on certain ethics like every week, they have to reset their stocks so, a customer never gets bored while visting the store, and will always explore some new collection in his each visit. Such kind of strategy instigates people to buy new cloth as they feel their own ward robe collection is outdated.

Such trend can harm on individual's progress. In my opinion Government should take responsibility to resolve this matter. Authority could imply higher taxes on such kind of products which put some restrictions on certain people. Higher tax on raw material could laso be discourage manufaturer to launch new collection frequenctly. On the other hand, policymakers can spread awarness regarding the cloths and their disposed process which detrimentally affected to environment. More cloth creates more waste that can destroy the ecosystem of the earth.

To sum up this, such people must be demotivated to buy planty amount of cloths. Although, clothing industry is completely integrated in our economy, government should issue harder policies in order to get a controlled over its influential behaviour.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, exploring the reasons behind excessive clothing consumption, such as social media trends and fast-fashion business models, and suggesting solutions like government intervention and taxation. The position is clear throughout the essay. However, some ideas are under-developed or touched upon too briefly, which is characteristic of the mid-band level. For example, the explanation of how social media drives purchases is somewhat repetitive, relying on general statements about photoshoots rather than deeper elaboration. To reach the next level, all ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with clearer reasoning and more robust examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and logical division into paragraphs focusing on reasons and solutions. Progression is generally maintained, but cohesion can occasionally feel mechanical or somewhat forced, as seen in transitions like 'On the other hand, policymakers' where the contrast is not entirely logical for the context. Referencing is also a bit imprecise in places, such as 'Such kind of strategy' or 'Such trend', which disrupts the natural flow. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to use cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure that referencing is consistently clear and unobtrusive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common terms such as 'unprecedented growth', 'ecosystem', and 'policymakers'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors related to word choice, collocation, and word form throughout the text, including 'proportional' instead of 'proportion', 'cloth' instead of 'clothes', 'reglar' (spelling), and 'awarness' (spelling). Additionally, phrasing such as 'implied higher taxes' or 'planty amount' reveals limitations in control over collocation and stylistic appropriateness. These errors do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the lexical score, preventing the response from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as conditional and modal constructions. However, there are several errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text. Examples include article omission ('in daily routine', 'to environment'), prepositional errors ('growth directy reflects to', 'harm on individual'), and issues with verb forms and subject-verb agreement ('People use to present', 'brands are forcing to launch', 'Authority could imply'). While these errors rarely impede overall communication, their frequency means the text cannot be credited with the frequent error-free sentences required for higher bands.
