Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is undeniable that with the advancement in technology, people can access the things easily, especially the clothes. Over the last few decades, in many parts of the globe, people have been gathering a large number of outfits. From my perspective, the main reason behind this issue is that people want to look different than others, which inssit them to collect more unique and fashionable attires. However, this issue can be resolved by spreading awareness about the harmful impacts on our enviornmnet during the manufacturing process of these expensive clothes.

To begin with, the primary reasons behind this problem are excessive wealth and desire to look trendy. In recent times, in many wealthy nations, people like to wear the fashionable and stylish clothes. As a result, this desire encourage them to make a new collection of clothes after a short time. Additionally, they are also willing to look unique and glamorous. To illustrate, it in many western countries, such as the U.K, the U.S.A the individuals prefer to buy differnt kinds of outfits to look unique and stylish.

Conversely, the government can take several steps to resolve this issue. Firstly, there should be awareness campaigns to educate people about the long process, which the industries take to manufacture these expensive clothes. Undoubtedly, the machines used in this process produced a substansial amount of pollution, which is harmful for our enviornmnet. Secondly, the importance of natural resouces such as water, electricity should be spread among people, which are used in these firms to produce a considerable amount of clothes.

In light of the aforementioned, nowadays people are prefering to buy a large amount of clothes due to the affect of increasing fashion industry and a substanial amount of money. However, this problem can be addressed by making them aware about the importance of natural resouces and clean environmnet, which can help them to lead a healthly lifestyle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons why people buy excessive clothes and potential solutions to reduce this consumption. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the reasons regarding consumer desire for trends are articulated, the exploration of solutions relies heavily on general statements about environmental awareness without detailing practical implementation. For instance, the suggestion that the government should run awareness campaigns is relevant, but it lacks deeper extension regarding how this would directly curb purchasing habits. The position is clear throughout, but the depth of support varies across paragraphs, reflecting a standard level where some aspects are more fully addressed than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from causes to solutions. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately, with distinct sections for the introduction, reasons, countermeasures, and conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'To begin with', 'Additionally', and 'Conversely'. However, referencing and cohesion can sometimes feel mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on transitional phrases to open points. While the logical flow is maintained throughout, minor lapses in the management of referencing keep the structural progression at a competent level without achieving higher flexibility.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common items such as 'advancement', 'manufacturing', and 'sustainable'. However, there are notable spelling errors ('enviornmnet', 'inssit', 'substansial', 'differnt', 'healthly') and occasional inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'making a new collection of clothes' or 'the affect of increasing fashion industry'. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes do not heavily impede communication, but they restrict the precision and fluency of the response, preventing the vocabulary score from rising further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'It is undeniable that...' and relative clauses ('...which are used in these firms...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as article omissions ('in many western countries, such as the U.K, the U.S.A the individuals...'), awkward prepositions, and verb form inconsistencies ('nowadays people are prefering'). Fortunately, these grammatical errors rarely impede communication, and the meaning of the sentences remains clear to the reader, aligning well with a balanced control of mixed sentence types.
