Student answer (Band 6.0)
Well, clothes are essential but many people in the globe buy a plethora of clothes.
Someone said that food, clothes and sheltar are basic necessity of life. There are several reasons for buying extra, non mandatory clothes. I will share those reasons in the following paragraph.
To begin with, clothes make a person attractive. There are different kind of outfits girls can have such as birthday party outfit, prom dress, wedding dress, casual wears and so on. Apart from this, people do not like to repeat their outfit in any of the functions because with this attitude they can show their status in the society. On top of it, discounts play the major role here too. For example, Zara Canada has sale twice a year one in summer and another in winter. They have cheap deals and those deals made a person to buy stuff eventhogh they do not need it.
Furthermore, fashion trend changes quickly. A 2 months older clothes look outdated sometimes because of new fashion. Also, holidays are also the reason to buy more clothes. To elaborate, people buy clothes according to the holiday destination for example, beachwears, winterwears and so on.
To reduce the number of clothes people can buy, we need to take some steps. First, at home parents should stop buying extra clothes for themselves so that children can learn from them. Secondly, celebrities should have to start wear same costumes in multiple events so that citizens can follow that trend too.
Overall, people are buying multiple clothes but there are ways to reduce this trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons why people buy excessive clothes and ways to reduce this consumption. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph touches on social status and sales, the explanation regarding fashion trends and holiday destinations in the second body paragraph is somewhat brief and under-developed. For instance, mentioning that a '2 months older clothes look outdated' is a relevant point about rapid consumerism, but it lacks further expansion with specific examples. The position is generally clear throughout, and the examples provided, such as mentioning Zara Canada, help to ground the response in real-world contexts, fulfilling the core requirements of addressing the prompt adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the essay into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate main ideas, such as moving from reasons for buying clothes to solutions for reducing purchases. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. The transition 'Someone said that food, clothes and sheltar are basic necessity of life' feels abrupt and lacks smooth integration into the introductory context. Additionally, cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Apart from this', and 'Furthermore' are used rather formulaically. Referencing and logical progression between some sentences could be smoother, though the overall flow remains understandable to the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common lexical items such as 'plethora', 'non mandatory', and 'outdated'. However, there are notable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling that reflect a developing lexicon. Examples include spelling errors like 'sheltar' and 'eventhogh', alongside awkward collocations such as 'casual wears' instead of 'casual wear' and 'have to start wear' instead of 'start wearing'. Despite these vocabulary and spelling slips, communication is not impeded, and the intended meaning remains clear to the reader throughout the piece.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate patterns, such as conditional or relative clauses. There are, however, some noticeable errors in grammar and punctuation. Examples include missing articles or pluralization issues like 'a plethora of clothes' versus 'A 2 months older clothes look outdated', and verb form inaccuracies such as 'celebrities should have to start wear same costumes'. Punctuation is generally functional, but prepositional and agreement patterns occasionally slip. Importantly, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the arguments without serious difficulty.
