Student answer (Band 5.5)

Shopping is becoming trend worldwide. In this era, mostly people follow the trend and do shopping frequently. There are number of reasons behind this trend which i will explain in next upcoming paragraphs and also discuss that how we can aware the people about this trend.

Firstly, people spend most of thier daily time on social media where they see the videos, photos and promotions of new clothes which attract them to buy the new clothes, the second biggest reason for over shopping is high discount on clothes. Clothes companies put high discounts on their stuff which lead to no need shopping. Last but not least, individulas follow their favourite superstars so they want to look like them and buy clothes which their superstars wear in photos and videos. One of my friend name Jagdeep Singh he do shopping every week because he follows one of the best designer of india Manish malhotra and also purchase the thing which he really dont like and throw them after one and two wear.

There are number of ways which can effect their shopping hobby and reduce them. This thing can be done with the help of Government. Authourities should aware the people about clothes wastage and show them the bad effect of clothes which they dumb. A lot of water and man power have to use for clothes recycling which leads to pollution. Moreover, Government should runs the ads and posts on social media which aware the people that clothes are their daily need so they should not accept one time wear trend and wear the clothes as much as they can were.

At the end i would suggest that people should be aware that clothes are thier need not their hobby.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, discussing both the reasons for excessive clothes shopping and ways to persuade people to reduce it. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the first body paragraph attempts to explain social media influence and sales promotions, the reasoning is somewhat repetitive, and the personal example regarding the friend Jagdeep Singh lacks clear relevance to broader societal trends. Similarly, the second body paragraph offers solutions involving government action and social media awareness campaigns, but the ideas are generalised and lack extension. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully elaborated with more sophisticated examples and clearer logical extensions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised, though transitions between ideas can be mechanical or abrupt, such as the sudden shift into the personal example. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen with pronouns like 'this thing' or 'they dumb' which create ambiguity regarding the intended referent. Cohesive devices are employed, but sometimes clumsily, leading to a choppy flow. To improve, the writer needs to ensure smoother transitions between sentences and paragraphs and maintain precise referencing throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to use less common words like 'promotions', 'superstars', and 'recycling'. However, there are noticeable limitations and inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'thier', 'individulas', 'authourities', and 'man power'. Phrases like 'lead to no need shopping' and 'accept one time wear trend' lack natural collocation and precision. Spelling and word-choice errors occur throughout the text, though they do not severely impede overall communication. To achieve a higher score, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire and use vocabulary with greater accuracy and appropriateness.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures are frequently marred by grammatical inaccuracies. There are noticeable errors in verb forms, articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as 'mostly people follow', 'where they see the videos', 'Government should runs', and 'have to use for clothes recycling'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with run-on sentences and a lack of proper comma usage. These errors require some effort from the reader to decipher the intended meaning. To progress, the writer needs to exercise better control over basic sentence structures and reduce the frequency of grammatical slips.
