Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, examining both the reasons for excessive clothes shopping and practical solutions to reduce it. The ideas presented are relevant, such as the psychological need to make a good first impression and the cultural pressure to follow trends. However, some parts of the task are developed more fully than others. For instance, the reasons section includes clear explanations involving disposable income and self-expression, whereas the solutions section remains somewhat general and lacks extended elaboration. To reach a higher level, the writer would need to fully develop every idea with more detailed supporting examples and clearer depth.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure, utilizing standard introductory, body, and concluding paragraphs. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, using standard sequencing phrases like 'To begin with', 'Second reason is this', and 'On the other hand'. While this demonstrates a solid framework, referencing and cohesive links are sometimes mechanical or slightly repetitive, such as the frequent repetition of 'reason is that'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to divide the response into clear thematic sections, successfully bridging the gap into higher organizational skills by presenting a generally clear progression of ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The writer uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common words and phrases such as 'denizens', 'disposable income' implied by 'have so much money', and 'realibility'. However, there are notable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'competative', 'freqently', 'puchase', 'quentity', 'conected', 'persude', 'attires', 'evey', 'helpfull', and 'peson'. Word choice is sometimes imprecise or awkward, such as using 'attires' as a countable plural noun. These lexical limitations and errors restrict the response to a foundational level of vocabulary control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied syntactic structures through clauses connected by 'so', 'which', and 'because'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, particularly regarding article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. Examples include 'clothes are basic need' missing an article, 'habit to buy' instead of 'habit of buying', 'do not where they have to spend', and sentence fragments such as 'Because if they will buy good quality'. These recurring structural slips place the grammatical performance firmly within the specified band.
