Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both the reasons for excessive clothing consumption and possible solutions to reduce it, which aligns with the requirements of this level. However, the development of ideas is uneven. For instance, the reasons regarding social media influence and sales are introduced with some relevant examples like celebrities, but they remain somewhat superficial and lack deeper extension. Similarly, the solutions proposed, such as government rules and individual budgeting, are mentioned rather than fully elaborated. To move to a higher level, the writer would need to extend and support all main points more thoroughly, providing richer explanations and more specific examples of how these measures would work in practice.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt to structure the response into an introduction, body paragraphs for reasons and solutions, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are employed, such as "To begin", "Another reason", and "However", though some referencing and linking are a bit mechanical or faulty, like "This essay will discuss the main reasons behind this trend and possible solution". The text shows the organisational framework required for a mid-tier score, but to reach the next band, the progression needs to be smoother, and the relationships between sentences and paragraphs must be managed with greater flexibility and precision.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate everyday ideas about shopping habits and environmental concerns. There is an attempt to use less common items and topic-specific vocabulary, such as "consumption", "advertisements", and "textile waste". However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies, word-choice errors, and incorrect word forms throughout the text, such as "Nowdays", "custmers", "eventhough", and "wstage". Additionally, some collocations are awkward, such as "natural products" instead of natural resources, and phrases like "buy only what you need mindset". These errors do not seriously impede communication, reflecting a vocabulary range that meets the threshold for an adequate score, but precise word choice and correct spelling are needed for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response features a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt at varied sentence structures such as conditional and relative clauses, as seen in "Since wastage of clothes can lead textile waste..." and "if government could implement strict rules...". However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that persist throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ("buying clothes become", "people feels", "custmers do not want"), article omissions, and incorrect prepositional usage. While these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to restrict the score. A greater proportion of error-free sentences and tighter control over basic grammatical rules are required to advance to a higher level.
