Student answer (Band 6.0)

The purchase of clothing is increasing day by day among people around the world. The reasons of buying many garments are popular brands and self-satisfaction. However, there is one way to encourage consumers to reduce their spending on clothes, is to provide them with an environmental education.

One major reason of buying excessive amount of clothing is the rapid developmet of fashion trends. If celebrities wear different type of branded clothing, local people follow their favourite icons and purchse same clothes even though they have already enough clothes to wear. secondly, people buy lots of clothes due to their self-satisfaction. Some individuals do not prefer to wear the same dress next day although dress is quite neat and clean. For example, in Canada, many office worker choose five different dresses to wear in five working days. As a result, the number of purchasing clothes is increasing.

Moving towards to solve this problem is to educate people about environmental issues. The disposal of clothes can contribute to polluate the environment and frsh air. This can lead to increasing the number of diseases, such as lung cancer. Therefore, the awareness of this should be give to people by running a campaign and news media so that they can understnad and contribute to protect the environment. For example, in Japan, the disposal of clothes is forbidden there and if someone is cought to do so, the person has to pay a penaty.

In conclusion, although the fashion has been developed so much so it attracts people to buy more clothes than before, the environmental issue can not ingored which happens by disposing old clothes. Therefore, men and women must be aware so that they can not only protect the environment, but also save some amount of their income by buying less clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question: you identify fashion trends and personal satisfaction as reasons for buying too many clothes, then propose environmental education as a way to reduce purchases. The examples about office workers and clothing disposal help make the points relevant. However, the reasons are not equally developed: the point about self-satisfaction is illustrated, but its link to excessive buying could be explained more clearly. The solution focuses mainly on the environmental harm caused by disposal; explain more directly how campaigns or media would change shopping habits, and consider another practical measure, such as promoting clothing swaps or limiting fast-fashion advertising. Your conclusion restates the main ideas, though it could summarise the proposed action more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, a paragraph on causes, a paragraph on the solution, and a conclusion. The progression from reasons to a proposed response is easy to follow, and signposts such as “One major reason” and “For example” help guide the reader. This meets the lower-band expectations securely and shows some features of stronger organisation. To make the flow more consistently smooth, avoid formulaic transitions such as “Moving towards to solve this problem” and connect the environmental explanation more explicitly to reducing purchases. Some references are unclear, particularly “the awareness of this,” which could specify awareness of clothing waste and its effects. Check punctuation around sentence boundaries, as in “lung cancer. Therefore,” to keep the presentation clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “fashion trends,” “branded clothing,” “environmental issues,” “disposal,” and “campaign.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some phrases show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, several inaccurate word choices, collocations, and spelling errors reduce precision: “reasons of buying,” “rapid developmet,” “polluate,” and “frsh air” are examples. Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “the number of purchasing clothes is increasing.” Aim to use more precise combinations, for example “reasons for buying clothes” and “the volume of clothing purchases is rising.” Proofreading spelling and choosing natural collocations would make your vocabulary more effective and easier to read.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional clause (“If celebrities wear…”) and a purpose clause (“so that they can…”). The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “there is one way …, is to provide” has faulty sentence construction, while “the awareness … should be give” needs a correct passive form. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and agreement in phrases such as “different type” and “many office worker.” Punctuation is sometimes inaccurate, as in the missing space after “cancer.” Work on building complete clauses and checking verb forms and noun forms; this will help you use your range of structures more reliably.
