What are the reasons for this?
How can people be persuaded to reduce the number of clothes they buy?Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Buying excessive clothes is now increasingly popular. There are myriad of reasons for spending lot of money on clothes. This essay will discuss various reasons and suggest some ideas to reduce the shopping of clothes.
The first and foremost reason is social media influence. People of different age groups, using social media follows the actors and actresses clothing trend closely, which compell them to buy those clothes, and look like them. For example, Salman Khan won a t-shirt from his own brand, which is named as"Being Human". After his picture gets viral in the social media, people start looking for the same t-shirt from the same brand, as it is worn by one of the celebrities.
Another reason is some people spend money on clothing for just being happy. Buying and wearing new clothes everyday without repeating to their work, or any ocassions is getting common nowadays. Although it costs lot of money, people find happiness in doing so.
It is not a good idea to spend too much money on clothes, so I believe public awareness programmes should be conducted, including some social media influencers, who can provide their valuable insights, and help people to stop buying lot of clothes. In addition to that, people should be made aware about the environmental effects caused by the clothes which are not wore several times and just discarded. Moreover, I believe imposing more taxes on clothes can be beneficial for solving this problem.
Therefore, buying clothes according to own needs is perfectly fine, however, spending on excessive number of clothes is never considered a good choice.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both parts of the question: social-media celebrity influence and the pleasure of buying new clothes are given as reasons, while awareness campaigns, environmental education and higher taxes are proposed as responses. The Salman Khan example makes the first reason more concrete. However, the second reason is only briefly explained, and the solutions are mostly listed rather than developed—for instance, you could explain how influencers might change purchasing habits or how taxes would discourage unnecessary purchases. The environmental point is relevant, but its link to reducing consumption could be made clearer. A more detailed explanation of each main idea and a clearer connection between causes and solutions would make the response more complete and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs explaining causes, a paragraph proposing solutions, and a concluding statement. The progression from reasons to remedies is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Another reason,” “In addition to that” and “Therefore” help guide the reader. Some linking is a little formulaic, and the solutions paragraph contains several proposals without showing how they relate to one another. The reference to “those clothes” is understandable, though the example could be integrated more smoothly into the explanation. To strengthen the flow, group related points and use transitions that express the relationship between ideas, rather than relying mainly on sequencing phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “social media influence,” “public awareness programmes,” “environmental effects” and “imposing more taxes.” There are also attempts at less common wording, such as “myriad” and “valuable insights.” However, some choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “shopping of clothes,” “won a t-shirt” and “clothing trend.” Spelling errors such as “ocassions” and “compell” also reduce accuracy. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your ideas, but more precise, natural phrasing would improve the response. Focus on learning common word partnerships and checking spelling, especially when using less familiar vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “clothes which are not wore several times” and a concessive structure beginning “Although it costs lot of money.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “people … follows” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “which compell them” also needs agreement. Articles are missing in “spending lot of money” and “it costs lot of money”; “without repeating to their work” has an unclear grammatical construction. There are also punctuation and spacing issues around the quoted brand name. Review agreement, articles and sentence construction, then proofread to catch these errors while retaining your varied sentence patterns.
