Student answer (Band 6.5)

Clothing is one of the predominant interests in some regions of the world, as more often individuals purchases a lot of clothes which they do not need. From my perspective, advertisement and social media exposure are the main reasons behind this, however these could be reduced through sensible awareness compaigns and restricting un-necesary content.

One of the major reasons of this trend is the use of social media which makes the people to follow influencers who create paid content to promote different online pages by using high -quality images. As a result, impulsive buyers spend a huge amount on the attires to copy their favourite personalities. In addition, the frequent advertisements that appear on TV or while watching videos makes people aware about the promotional offers on reputative brands, consequently people buy their preferred articles on sale offers to save their money. For example, the brands shows a flat discounts on summer collection at the end of summer season, people prefer to buy their favourites even they do not need them immediately.

The behaviour of people regarding this trend could be changed by arranging awareness compaigns to make people aware about these sales traps. The brands usually sells their products at a huge profit margin and sometimes they just call it sale without changing their actual cost to attract large audience as a result, the awareness compaigns would help people to prevent themselves from the fake sale traps. Additionally, these can also motivate people to spend their hard earned money on long-term sustainable products such as property which would provide financial stability in future. Another suitable solution is to reduce the exposure of those pages who post more frequently regarding clothing which would divert their attention, consequently, this would prevent them from buying clothes.

To conclude, though social media widespread and advertisements are one of the main causes of impulsive shopping. Sensible awareness compagins would be benefical to reduc this trend to the greater extent, causing a significant shift in their purchasing choices.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question and maintain a clear overall view: social media and advertising encourage excess purchases, while awareness campaigns and reduced exposure could help. The examples of influencers and end-of-season discounts make the causes relevant, and the discussion of misleading sales offers gives one solution some support. This meets the task well, but the two proposed solutions are not developed equally. The suggestion to reduce clothing-page exposure is brief, and the link between buying fewer clothes and spending on property is not fully explained or directly necessary to the argument. To strengthen the response, explain how each measure would change purchasing behaviour and add a more specific example of its likely effect.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear four-paragraph structure, with causes grouped in the second paragraph and solutions in the third. Its progression is easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “In addition,” and “Additionally” help show relationships between ideas. The conclusion also returns to the main causes and remedies. Some connections, however, are mechanical or unclear: “these” in the solutions paragraph does not have a precise reference, and the sentence about investing in property moves away from the central issue without a clear transition. The final paragraph begins with “though” but does not complete a contrasting clause. Use references with clear nouns and make each transition express the exact relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including phrases such as “impulsive buyers,” “promotional offers,” “sustainable products,” and “financial stability.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more formal vocabulary are evident. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “predominant interests,” “reputative brands,” and “save their money” in the context of buying clothes. Spelling errors such as “compaigns,” “un-necesary,” and “benefical” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise combinations rather than more elaborate wording: for example, “popular brands” and “encourage consumers to spend less.” Proofreading spelling and checking collocations would make your vocabulary more reliable.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses and cause-and-effect sentences, as in “who create paid content” and “which would provide financial stability.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “individuals purchases,” “advertisements … makes,” and “the brands shows.” There are also problems with sentence boundaries and clause structure: “To conclude, though social media widespread and advertisements are…” lacks a complete clause after “though,” while several long sentences join ideas with commas. Review agreement, articles, and the construction of subordinate clauses, and divide long sentences where needed. More consistent control of these forms would improve accuracy while preserving your range.
