Student answer (Band 6.0)

It has been observed that recently people are inclined towards purchasing far more clothes in some parts of the world. There are many reasons for this trend, and I will suggest several measures to address this issue in this essay.

On of the major reason is influence. Individuals observe others dessing style and they get influence by their fashion. However, there are many other platforms available where people can get carried away by advertisements, social media and online applications. They play an important role in attracting audience to buy such clothing brands. Another reason is many celebraties wear expensive outfits to advertise collaborated brands. Therefore, fans try to copy heir idols buy ourchasing same clothing to follow celebraties trends.

There are many ways to handle this issue. Governments should implement higher tax prices. In turn, people will stop or likely spend less money on buying unnecessary clothing. Moreover, public educational campaigns in schools and on television about expensive clothing material, and their deter effects can encourage people to spend less money on clothes. This was people who value environmental concerns will try to avoid spending on clothes.

To recapitulate, there are many platforms to influence people to purchase unnecessary clothes, however this issue can be handled with a combined approach by campaigns and new policies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both parts of the question: you identify social influence, advertising and celebrity promotion as reasons, then suggest taxation and public education as responses. These ideas are relevant, but they are mostly asserted rather than explained or supported with examples. For instance, you say fans copy celebrities, but do not explain how this leads to excessive purchases; the proposed tax is also not explored in terms of likely effects or drawbacks. The conclusion restates your general position without adding development. The response is 35 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your points. To strengthen the response, explain the causes and measures in more detail and include a relevant example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. This makes the main direction easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Another reason,” “Moreover,” and “To recapitulate” help signal relationships between ideas. The organisation is generally effective, though some connections are abrupt or unclear. For example, “In turn” does not clearly show how higher taxes would lead to reduced purchases, and the final sentence joins contrasting ideas with “however” without appropriate punctuation. The causes and solutions paragraphs would progress more smoothly if each point were explained before moving to the next. Clearer referencing and more precise links would make the cohesion less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “advertisements,” “social media,” “educational campaigns,” and “environmental concerns,” and the reader can generally understand your meaning. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “collaborated brands” and “deter effects,” but these are not natural or accurate in context. Several spelling errors—such as “celebraties,” “dessing,” and “ourchasing”—are noticeable, while repeated use of general words such as “people,” “clothes,” and “influence” limits precision. Aim to use accurate collocations and a wider range of topic-specific terms, for example, language about fast fashion, consumer habits, and textile waste. Proofreading would also help prevent spelling errors from distracting the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “platforms available where people can get carried away” and a conditional idea in “people who value environmental concerns will try to avoid spending.” However, errors occur in basic sentence construction and agreement, and some complex attempts are difficult to follow. For example, “On of the major reason is influence” has problems with the article, plural agreement and sentence form; “fans try to copy heir idols buy…” also lacks a clear grammatical connection between the actions. The final sentence needs punctuation around “however.” Work on accurate subject–verb agreement, complete clauses, and punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear relationship between its parts.
