Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many people in some parts of the countries purchase many clothes then they actually need. This is mainly because of the fashion trends, social media and discounts. However there are several ways to encourage people to buy fewer clothes and make more responsible choices.

One main reason for people buying new clothes is because of the fashion trends as it changes every time and they are persuaded to buy more new clothes to look more attractive and feel confident. Social media influencers also encourage people to try new brands since they promote it. Secondly, online products offer a wide range of discounts which encourage customers to spend even if they do not need the item.

For example: Katrina Kaif has promoted a beauty product called Kay beauty where all the cosmetics product are available in one platform. It offers discounts and every women have even a smallest item from this product even if they do not find it useful for them.

There are various ways to stop people from purchasing clothes that they don't need. One effective method is to educate customers about the damage that fashion industry caused by rising water pollution level and textile waste. Social media should be a spot to organise campaigns and promote ideas about how to utilize the use of clothes and how often should new item be bought. They should be encourage to purchase a good quality product which last longer rather than buying cheap ones more often. For instance: Customers should donate clothes to some charity who are really in need of having clothes rather than dumping in a garbage.

Overall people are persuaded by buying new clothes because of discounts trends which media and fashion industry promote. Nevertheless, public awareness, shopping habits and clothing reuse programmes can help reduce unnecessary purchases and protect the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the question and give a clear overall account: fashion trends, social-media promotion and discounts are presented as causes, while education, campaigns, buying durable items and donating clothes are proposed as responses. The examples make the discussion relevant, particularly the reference to influencer promotion and clothing donation. This meets the task well, but the development is uneven: the Kay Beauty example concerns cosmetics rather than clothes, so it does not directly support the clothing argument, and the point about environmental education is not explained in detail. To strengthen the response further, use a clothing-specific example and explain more fully how each proposed measure would change purchasing behaviour.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, moving from causes to solutions and ending with a summary. Paragraphing helps the reader follow this progression, and signposts such as “One main reason,” “Secondly” and “Nevertheless” make the main stages visible. However, some linking is mechanical, and connections between ideas are occasionally unclear. For example, “For example:” introduces a cosmetics promotion that is not closely connected to buying clothes, while “Social media should be a spot to organise campaigns” shifts abruptly from education to campaigning. The final summary repeats earlier points rather than drawing them together. Use more precise referencing and transitions, and ensure each example clearly supports the point immediately before it.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “fashion trends,” “discounts,” “textile waste,” “quality product” and “clothing reuse programmes.” These choices make the subject clear, and you attempt some more specific expressions related to consumer behaviour and environmental impact. However, several word choices and collocations are awkward or imprecise, such as “in some parts of the countries,” “a spot to organise campaigns,” and “utilize the use of clothes.” There is also repetition of “clothes,” “buy” and “promote,” which limits flexibility. Aim for more natural combinations and precise terms—for example, “regions,” “platform,” “reuse clothing” and “encourage consumers”—and check word forms such as “cosmetics product.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including explanations with “because” and a relative clause in “a good quality product which last longer.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. Examples include “as it changes every time,” where the reference is unclear, “every women have,” which has a subject–verb agreement and plural-form problem, and “They should be encourage,” which needs a passive participle. Other issues include “fashion industry caused” and “how often should new item be bought,” where verb form, article use and sentence structure need attention. Review agreement, passive constructions and articles, and proofread longer sentences for accurate clause structure.
