Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are many places of world where people habbitual to purchase more than required clothes. I experienced the same when i was living in Canada as the weather there especially winter is extreme. There people likely to buy more clothes than any part of world as washing clothes is only twice a month. Every individual has to purchase sets of clothes including thermal one too.

In addition, other reasons now a days are fashion and more choices. People prefer to look to look more unique and different. As fashion and trends rapidy changes, demand of clothes increases. However all these demands are artificially created by big brands. So before purchasing we should make a wise decision.

On the contrary, there are many countries in the world where people donot have sufficient set of clothes due to poverty and other issues. As in many countries survival and to get three time food is difficult to attain. so in such places people have very less clothes infact less than required.

There should be awarness compaigns at individual, organizational and Governmental level to educate people to not to buy more than required clothes as this money can be utilise in many efffective ways. They should teach the importance of humanity and helping other deserving people in any kind and donating excess clothes is one of the best charity that can be done easily.

In my opinion, there should be a mix of both as to have sufficient required clothes but not unnecessary. In such a way we reduce the many clothes which are not required and at the same helping many people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both questions: fashion, changing trends and brand influence are offered as reasons, while awareness campaigns and donating surplus clothing are proposed as responses. The personal example about buying winter clothes in Canada also makes the discussion relevant. However, the explanation of why people buy too much is only partly developed: the weather and washing point is difficult to follow, and the link between needing warm clothing and buying excessively is not made clear. The proposed campaigns are also broad; explain who would run them and how they might change purchasing habits. Your view that people should keep enough clothes but avoid unnecessary purchases is present, though it could be stated more clearly and supported with a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable paragraph structure, moving from personal experience and reasons to poverty, possible solutions and a concluding opinion. This gives the reader a basic route through the answer. However, progression is uneven: the paragraph about people who lack clothes shifts attention away from the causes and solutions without clearly connecting poverty to the question. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “On the contrary” and “In such a way,” and the relationship between ideas in the opening paragraph is hard to follow. Use topic sentences that directly signal each paragraph’s purpose, and make links explicit—for example, explain how donating surplus clothes addresses overconsumption. Clearer referencing and transitions would make the organisation more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “fashion and trends,” “big brands,” “awareness campaigns,” “sufficient” and “donating excess clothes.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, but the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making meaning less clear. Examples include “habbitual to purchase,” “sets of clothes,” “three time food” and “effective ways.” Spelling errors such as “rapidy,” “awarness” and “efffective” are also noticeable. Aim to learn natural phrases for consumer behaviour and social campaigns, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish necessary clothing purchases from excessive consumption.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including “As fashion and trends rapidy changes, demand of clothes increases” and the sentence beginning “There should be awarness compaigns…”. However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the reader work to understand the point. For example, “There are many places of world where people habbitual to purchase” lacks a complete grammatical construction, while “fashion and trends … changes” has a subject–verb agreement problem. The final sentence, “In such a way we reduce the many clothes…,” is also awkwardly formed. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them with conjunctions; check articles, verb agreement and punctuation when editing.
