Student answer (Band 6.0)

Craze to buy new clothes is prevelant among people from some parts of the world as it is believed that clothes aids personality development, brings confidence, and mandatory to maintain a class in the society. However, there are certain ways to convince the individuals to reduce the purchase of clothes like aware them about the environmental concerns, promote pre-owned clothing, and the financial burden they cause to the pocket of people.

The most significant reason behind the craze for new clothes is the influence of social media. It is becoming a trend to click, and post the photographs on social media without repeating clothes to maintain standard in the society. Let us take the celebrities for instance, who generally post about their expensive clothing without repetition which ultimately attracts their followers to follow the same trend to maintain a class in the society. In addition, some people who don't mind to repeat the clothes, but strictly not on special occassions also have to buy new clothes more often. To exemplify, most of the festivals in India are celebrated by wearing new clothes, purchasing sweets, and doing a lot of fun activities as a part of their culture.

The another most important reason is the thought that overall personality of people is judged by their looks. For example, almost all the working people who deal with other deligates on daily basis are more likely to purchase new clothes as they believe that the first impact of their personality will be given by their overall outer appearance.

Apart from this, people can be persuaded to reduce the number of clothes they buy by convincing them through different ways such as by raising the awareness of environmental consequences. The unlimited water consumption by the textile industries lowers the underground water level to a greater extent. Moreover, continuous supply of effluent from these industries increase air and water pollution. Additionaly, Government should start campaigns about promotion of second hand clothing which not only increase the lifespan of clothes, but will reduce the consumer demand also.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the task and give a clear overall direction: social-media pressure, appearance-based judgement and cultural occasions explain purchases, while environmental awareness and second-hand clothing are proposed as solutions. The examples of celebrities and Indian festivals make the reasons relevant, and the textile-industry impacts support your environmental suggestion. However, the solutions are less fully developed than the reasons: the financial burden is mentioned in the introduction but not explained in the body, and the campaign proposal would be stronger with detail about how it could change buying habits. To strengthen the response, develop each proposed measure and connect it explicitly to reducing overconsumption. The response meets the task’s length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph explaining reasons, and a final paragraph presenting ways to reduce purchases. Ideas generally progress logically, and examples are introduced with phrases such as “for instance” and “To exemplify.” The main limitation is that the reasons and solutions are not balanced across the body: both reasons are grouped together, while the solutions receive less explanation, and the financial point in the introduction is not carried forward. Some linking is also mechanical, with repeated “Moreover,” “In addition,” and “For example.” Use clearer paragraphing to separate the two task questions, and make references between claims and examples more explicit to improve the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “social media,” “environmental consequences,” “textile industries,” “effluent,” and “second hand clothing.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “maintain a class in the society,” “first impact of their personality,” and “increase the lifespan of clothes.” Spelling errors, including “prevelant,” “occassions,” and “Additionaly,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “social status,” “first impression,” and “extend the life of garments.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including relative clauses (“who generally post…”) and a conditional-style explanation (“as they believe…”). The meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain across the response. For example, “clothes aids” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “The another most important reason” uses an incorrect article construction. In “the overall personality of people is judged,” the article and phrasing need more careful control, and “supply of effluent… increase” requires a singular verb. Review agreement, articles, and sentence construction, then proofread each sentence for these patterns. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your ideas easier to follow.
