Student answer (Band 6.5)

Shopping encapsulates to catering all the requirement from basic necessities to live luxuries lifestyle. Many people spend a considerable amount of money to purchase clothes. I believe maintaining social status, following the latest trends, and shopping impulsively are the main reason for this behavious. Several steps need to be taken to overcome this problem. This essay will discuss the underlying reasons and feasible solutions to reduce spending money on buying clothes.

The main factor is modern fashion trends. People often follow big influencers, celebrities, fashion designers and try to imitate their lifestyles. Consequently, people influence and purchase clothes as per the trend to maintain their social status. For instance, companies frequently send free clothes to social media influencers to promote their designs and their followers get tempted and end up buying those clothes. As a result, individuals become impulsive shoppers.

An appropriate solution to this challenge is awareness. Governments and people should work together to raise people's awareness about the difference between need and want. Moreover, many social service organisations communicate people to make them understand that they can reuse their clothes and restyle it in different ways. Such as, an eminent bollywood actress Alia Bhatt rewear her wedding dress on her film promotion and her intention positively impacted her fans' personalities.

In conclusion, It is evident that fasionable lifestyle and lack of knowledge leads people to buy more and more clothes. However, fashion schools and proper guidance by authorities and impactful personalities should be impactful solutions to educate people and reduce the frequency of clothes people buy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses both questions and presents a clear overall position: fashion trends, social status and impulsive shopping are identified as causes, while awareness and rewearing clothes are offered as solutions. The influencer example helps explain how trends encourage purchases, and the Alia Bhatt example makes the reuse proposal more concrete. This meets the task well, but the causes are not equally developed: social status and impulsive buying are mentioned, yet their distinct roles are not fully explained. The solutions also need more detail about how governments or organisations could persuade people in practice. To strengthen the response further, explain the mechanisms behind each point and connect examples explicitly to reducing overconsumption.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for causes and solutions, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and connectors such as “Consequently,” “For instance,” and “Moreover” help show relationships between ideas. However, some links are mechanical or unclear. “As a result, individuals become impulsive shoppers” does not fully explain how influencer promotion leads to impulsive behaviour, while “Such as” introduces an example as a fragment rather than integrating it into the sentence. The conclusion also repeats the main points without clearly synthesising them. For stronger progression, make each paragraph’s central idea explicit and use referencing and transitions that show the precise relationship between claims and examples.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The response uses an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “social status,” “fashion trends,” “impulsively,” “reuse,” and “restyle.” These choices make the subject clear, and attempts at more formal phrasing are evident. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “Shopping encapsulates to catering,” “influence and purchase clothes,” and “communicate people to make them understand.” Spelling and word-form slips, including “behavious,” “fasionable,” and “rewear,” also reduce precision. These errors do not prevent understanding, but they limit the naturalness and control of the vocabulary. Aim for established collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully, especially in the introduction and conclusion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

There is a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures with “Consequently” and a relative clause in “clothes to promote their designs.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction. For example, “the main reason” should agree with the plural list of causes, and “Alia Bhatt rewear her wedding dress” needs a correctly formed past-tense verb. “Fashionable lifestyle and lack of knowledge leads” also has a subject–verb agreement problem. The example beginning “Such as” is not a complete sentence. To improve, check agreement and verb tense systematically, and ensure that examples are attached to complete sentences while continuing to use varied structures.
