Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, people don't perceive cloth as a basic necessity but as thing to flex about. There are many reasons for this such as social media trends, societal pressure and availability of clothes at cheaper rates. However, I believe that these can be reduced to a certain level by taking some measures like promoting thrift stores, spreading awareness and many more.

To begin with, one of the main reason for people buying more clothes is cause of the FOMO, if some kind of fashion style becomes viral, people want to follow the trend which leads them to buy unnecessary fits that they might not wear once the trend fades. To exemplify, a famous celebrity wear a ripped tshirt and few influencers start repeating it and in no time it will be . In addition to that, online shopping has made everything so accessible for all the individuals to buy anything around the world.

Nevertheless, there are certain measures that can help in reducing the amount of purchases taking place. I feel the big fashion organisations should promote the idea of recycling and donating clothes. For instane, there are famous celebrities who are repeating there worn outfits by raising awareness , that it is completely okay to wear same outfit which can still be styled differently to get new look. There is not enough awareness among the public regarding the carbon footprint that's left behind.

In conclusion, although there are multiple reasons as viral fits and online apps for the increasing purchase of garments, there are solution that can persue people in limiting their will to buy clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both parts of the question and give a clear overall position: social-media trends, social pressure and easy online access encourage overbuying, while recycling, donation and awareness could help reduce it. The discussion is relevant, but some points are less fully developed than others. For example, the explanation of viral fashion is understandable, yet the celebrity example ends unfinished (“in no time it will be .”), so it does not show clearly how the trend leads to repeated purchases. The proposed measures also need more explanation of how organisations or public campaigns would persuade consumers to change. Develop each main idea with a complete example and a clearer link to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a paragraph on causes, one on solutions, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “In addition to that,” and “Nevertheless” help signal the direction of the discussion, and the reader can follow the main points. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility associated with stronger cohesion. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes abrupt: the move from fear of missing out to online shopping is not fully explained, and the example about a celebrity is incomplete. Some references, such as “these” in the introduction, are also broad. Make the links between claims and examples more explicit and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “social media trends,” “thrift stores,” “recycling,” “carbon footprint,” and “viral.” These choices make the subject clear, and there is an attempt to use informal contemporary language to describe fashion consumption. At times, however, word choice or collocation is imprecise or too informal for an IELTS essay: “cloth” is used where “clothing” is intended, “fits” and “flex about” are conversational, and “availability of clothes at cheaper rates” is awkwardly phrased. There are also spelling errors such as “instane” and “persue.” Aim for more consistent formal phrasing and check spelling and collocations; this would make your ideas sound more precise without losing clarity.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and relative structures, as in “if some kind of fashion style becomes viral” and “that they might not wear once the trend fades.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors remain. Examples include “one of the main reason” (plural agreement), “a famous celebrity wear” (subject–verb agreement), and “there are solution” (plural agreement). Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “as thing to flex about,” while the celebrity example ends with an incomplete clause. Review agreement, articles and complete sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
