Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writting thi letter to you about the incovienience I have been facing since I rented this place.I have been told by the broker of agency that they have contract for full building rental. My next door listen to music on high volume and plays video games all day. Whenever I come to home I can experience it from the moment I enter in building.

I am currently pursuing nursing in Alpha universty which requires a lot of concetration and efforts. Due to these noises I suffer during the night to complete my homework because I can not focus with the disturbance around me.Moreover, it creates difficulties in sleeping. I also confronted him and asked politely to lower down the volume but he did not reduced it .

I would like you to request for your help in solving this problem. Please request him to not to play loud music after 10 pm . Unless or otherwise I will have no other choice than leaving the appartment. I hope you will understand my problem.I really appriciate you for your concern and hoping to hear back from you.

Yours Sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you identify the neighbour’s noise, explain its effect on your studies and sleep, and ask the agency to intervene. The details about studying nursing and having already spoken politely to the neighbour make the complaint relevant and credible. However, the timing of when the problem began is not clearly explained: “since I rented this place” refers to your tenancy, but does not establish when the neighbour’s behaviour started. The requested action is also somewhat inconsistent, as you ask the agency to request that he stop loud music after 10 pm, while the task concerns loud video games late at night. Clarifying when the noise began and specifying the action you want regarding gaming would make the letter more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall structure, with separate paragraphs for the complaint, its effects, and your request. The progression from describing the noise to explaining its impact and asking for help is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Unless or otherwise” show an effort to connect ideas, and the reader can understand the main message. To make the organisation more polished, ensure each paragraph develops one clear point and use transitions more naturally. For example, the opening moves from the agency’s rental contract to the neighbour’s behaviour without explaining the connection. Some sentences also run together because spaces after full stops are missing, which interrupts the flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the complaint and its consequences, including “high volume,” “concentration,” “disturbance,” and “confronted him.” These choices help convey the seriousness of the problem, and the meaning is generally clear. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrases reduce accuracy, such as “incovienience,” “concetration,” “lower down the volume,” and “leaving the appartment.” The description also shifts from video games to music, so the wording does not consistently identify the source of the noise. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, and use precise terms for the neighbour’s gaming noise and the effect on your studies and sleep.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “Due to these noises I suffer during the night to complete my homework because I can not focus…” and “Unless or otherwise I will have no other choice…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and naturalness. For instance, “My next door listen” has an incorrect subject construction, and “he did not reduced it” uses the wrong verb form after “did not.” There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, as in “from the moment I enter in building” and the missing space after several full stops. Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms after auxiliaries, and punctuation when joining clauses.
