Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to bring your attention for a problem of sounf of loud video games at late night.

This issue arise a couple weeks ago, when the new tenat moved in the flat next to mine. On very first few days the volume of the videop game was normal that I could not hear and got my sleep disturbed.

However, when my neighbour bought a new speaker, they started playing it over night. It is not only disturbing me, it also ruin peace of all the near by resident.

I would to suggest a few options that a taken to solve this issue. Firstly, they should be aware with legal notice of ban of loud music at overnight. This is a peaceful society.

Best Regards

Jaspreet

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the late-night gaming noise, explain that it began after a new neighbour moved in and later became louder when they bought a speaker, and suggest that the agency take action. However, the effects on you are only briefly stated, and the claim that it disturbs nearby residents is not supported with detail. Your request is also unclear: “they should be aware with legal notice of ban” does not specify what you want the agency itself to do, such as contact the neighbour or enforce quiet hours. The response is 19 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited development. Add specific effects on your sleep or daily life and make a clear, practical request.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a generally understandable sequence: you introduce the problem, describe how it developed, and then offer a possible solution. The use of “However” helps signal the change from initially tolerable noise to louder overnight gaming, while “Firstly” introduces your request. Some connections are less clear, though. For example, “On very first few days the volume … was normal that I could not hear and got my sleep disturbed” makes the relationship between the volume and your sleep difficult to follow. The final request also shifts abruptly to a legal notice without explaining the agency’s role. Separate the background, effects, and requested action more clearly, and use linking phrases to show how each point relates.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the situation, including “loud video games,” “new speaker,” “overnight,” and “peaceful society,” so the reader can identify the main issue. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the message harder to understand. For instance, “bring your attention for a problem” and “aware with legal notice of ban” are not natural expressions, while “sounf,” “tenat,” and “videop” contain spelling errors. Aim for precise phrases such as “bring this matter to your attention,” “issue a warning,” and “excessive noise.” Proofreading spelling and choosing standard collocations would make the complaint clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a time clause beginning “when the new tenat moved in” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Nevertheless, errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement, and articles occur frequently and can make some ideas difficult to interpret. For example, “This issue arise” needs a past-tense verb, and “it also ruin peace” has an agreement error and needs an article before “peace.” The sentence about the first few days is also structurally unclear, and “I would to suggest” uses an incorrect verb pattern. Practise accurate past-tense narration and basic request forms, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb.
