Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have addressed the three bullet points—complaining about the noise, explaining the impact on students, and proposing solutions—the development is very thin. You have not actually proposed any solutions to reduce the noise, which is a key requirement of the prompt. The letter is also incomplete, lacking a formal closing or sign-off. To improve, ensure you fully develop each point with specific details and ensure the letter follows a standard formal structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter lacks a clear structure. There is no proper introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is insufficient. The flow of ideas is somewhat disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited. For example, the transition between the complaint and the impact is abrupt. To improve, use clear paragraph breaks for each point and incorporate linking words such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' to help guide the reader through your arguments logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. You use 'noise pollution' twice in close proximity, and phrases like 'amazing restaurant' are not appropriate for a formal letter of complaint. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'regarding to inform you' (which is redundant) and 'dissatisfied from' (the correct collocation is 'dissatisfied with'). To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise, formal vocabulary and ensure you are using correct collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'a new restaurant is constructed' (should be 'has been constructed'), 'open to midnight' (should be 'open until midnight'), and 'problem with wake up' (should be 'difficulty waking up'). The sentence structures are simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. You need to work on verb tenses, prepositions, and sentence variety to improve your accuracy and range.
