Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the key aspects of writing to a friend who is starting work at your company, such as mentioning digital marketing, communication skills, and workplace ambience. However, the text falls significantly short of the required 150-word minimum, containing only 120 words. This under-length issue heavily restricts the development of ideas, leaving points such as the need for formal clothes and self-introduction underdeveloped and brief. Furthermore, the tone is somewhat inconsistent and abrupt for a friendly letter. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed, which negatively impacts the overall score for this criterion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The letter exhibits some basic organisation, utilizing transitional markers such as 'Moreover', 'All employees', and 'Furthermore' to connect sentences and ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is frequently mechanical, repetitive, and occasionally inaccurate, as seen in phrases like 'you for on the first few days'. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas is somewhat disjointed due to the brevity of the response and abrupt shifts between workplace atmosphere, personal introduction, and dress code. While the progression of ideas is discernible, the lack of smooth transitions and structural control keeps the score at this level.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary for the task, incorporating standard workplace terms such as 'digital marketing', 'communication skills', 'colleagues', and 'formal clothes'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as spelling 'neccessary', spelling 'dedicate' instead of 'dedicated', and writing 'dedicate behaviour'. Repetition of words like 'too' ('too important', 'too cooperative') further limits lexical flexibility. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic message, these noticeable errors and the restricted range prevent the response from achieving a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing relies on a mix of simple and somewhat complex sentence forms, but attempts at complex structures frequently contain grammatical faults. Examples include awkward phrasing like 'As you at the work is related to digital marketing therefore your communication skills are too important therefore you must prepare it', which demonstrates run-on structures and incorrect preposition use. There are also frequent errors in subject-verb agreement and word forms, such as 'you should en explain about youself' and 'you shou must wear'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently and lower the overall readability of the text.
