Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student attempts to cover the key requirements of the email, such as stating the purpose of writing, describing the desired apartment, specifying the move-in date, and asking about viewing appointments. However, the tone is somewhat inconsistent for a formal inquiry regarding rental properties, opening with 'Dear sir' without a proper name and mixing formal and informal elements. While the information regarding the family size, preferred facilities, and orientation is provided, some parts lack the necessary elaboration expected in a fully realized task response. The purpose is generally clear, but the development of ideas remains slightly basic and limited. Overall, the response addresses the core request adequately, resulting in a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The email is divided into short paragraphs, which helps structure the different points, such as apartment details, preferences, and questions about the viewing. However, logical progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'Moreover,' 'Furthermore,' and 'However,' which are used somewhat awkwardly. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in phrases like 'it would be like if there is some facilities.' Paragraphing is used, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a more natural organizational progression. Due to these mechanical and sometimes faulty cohesive links, a Band 6.0 is appropriate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'responsible tenant,' 'utilities,' and 'property manager.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'inquiry' instead of 'enquire,' 'appartment' instead of 'apartment,' 'advertise' instead of 'advertisement,' 'prefernce' instead of 'preference,' and 'enternace' instead of 'entrance.' These errors, alongside non-idiomatic phrasings such as 'talk to propery manager' and 'How can book my appoinment,' show an inconsistent control of less common lexical items and spelling conventions. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the message, fitting the criteria for Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response contains a mix of simple and moderately complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing this email to inquiry about renting appartment' and 'Moreover, i like the structure of your construction.' There are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('renting appartment', 'Family of 4', 'for view and talk to propery manager'), incorrect prepositions ('move from the october 1st'), and punctuation mistakes, such as missing capitalization ('i') and comma splices ('How can book my appoinment . Please let me know.'). Additionally, the sentence 'I am looking forward to wait your response' is non-standard. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader but do not completely obscure the message, placing the grammar at a Band 5.0.
