Student answer (Band 5.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing to inform you that loud noises came from the adjoining room during the late hours of the night. This disturb my sleep and wellbeing.
This issue began from two weeks ago when my neighbour’s started playing video games. Loud noises of shouting and conversations with the other players clearly heard from the adjoining wall. At the start of this disturbance i want to tolerate this situation but this effects on my sleep. I worked full time so i got up early in the morning, therefore to my lack of sleep i feel exhausted at my work and feeling frustrated. I requested my neighbour politely but this didn’t work.
I requested to solved this issue and remember him the tenant of the building rules in the agreement especially in the early hours of the morning. If the situation is not controlled then i am with you to take an action as you want under the tenancy agreement.
It defect my daily routine especially my sleep and mental health that’s why i am grateful to you if you sort this out .
Your sincerely

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you say the noise began “two weeks ago,” explain that it disrupts your sleep and leaves you exhausted and frustrated at work, and ask the agency to remind the neighbour of the tenancy rules and take action if needed. These details make the complaint relevant and give the agency a clear sense of the impact. Some parts are less fully developed: the request for action is expressed unclearly, particularly “I requested to solved this issue,” and you could specify a practical step, such as contacting the neighbour or enforcing quiet hours. The letter also needs a more consistently formal opening and closing. Overall, the purpose is clear, though the proposed resolution could be more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a generally understandable sequence: you introduce the complaint, describe when it began and its effects, then make a request. Paragraphing helps separate these stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and several links between ideas are awkward or unclear. For example, “therefore to my lack of sleep” does not clearly connect your early work schedule to feeling exhausted, while “If the situation is not controlled then i am with you to take an action” makes your intended request hard to interpret. Some information about the effect on your routine is repeated in the final paragraph. Use clearer transitions and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose to make the organisation more effective.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for a complaint, including “adjoining room,” “disturbance,” “exhausted,” “frustrated,” and “tenancy agreement.” This gives you enough range to explain the problem and its consequences. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the message less clear. For instance, “this effects on my sleep” and “remember him the tenant of the building rules” do not express your meaning naturally; “it defect my daily routine” is also unclear. There are spelling and form issues such as “i” and “Your sincerely.” Aim to learn common complaint-letter phrases and check that verbs and nouns fit together naturally, while retaining the relevant vocabulary you already use.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional sentence beginning “If the situation is not controlled” and a cause-and-effect explanation using “so.” This shows some range, and the main complaint can generally be understood. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make several sentences awkward or unclear. Examples include “This disturb my sleep,” “Loud noises … clearly heard,” and “I requested to solved this issue.” The sentence beginning “At the start of this disturbance” also combines ideas in a way that is difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and complete sentence patterns, and check subject–verb agreement and punctuation before sending the letter.
