Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir/ Madam,

My name is Riddhiba and I rent an appartment in bulding 100 trough your agenacy. My purpose of writing this latter to complain about my neighbour.

It all started a week ago when there is new tenet came on beside's unit. Same day they started to play music on high volume and I thought there must be party as they move into new flat so I didn't took any action but now it's been a week and it is still same. Despite of telling them many time thay are still doing the same.

As I mentioed before I am University student, and most of the time I studied at night. Owing to this loud music I am not able to focus and they play this all night. Not only me others are also complaing that they are not able to sleep because of this.

As per agency rule, I would like to sugest you to give the warrent to them to stop playing loud music at night hours. That will be great if you can take this action at your earliest.

I hope you will understand this matter. Thank you for taking action in advance.

Your faithfully,

Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points and maintain a suitable complaint-letter purpose. The timeline is clear: the noise began when a new tenant moved in a week ago and has continued despite your attempts to speak to them. You also explain the effect on your studies and mention that other residents cannot sleep, which supports the complaint. Your request for the agency to intervene is present, but “give the warrant to them” does not clearly specify the action you want; ask the agency to contact the neighbour, issue a formal warning, or enforce quiet hours. The impact and requested remedy could be developed more precisely. The closing is polite, though the sign-off should be “Yours faithfully” for this greeting.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: you introduce the complaint, explain its history, describe its effects, and then request action. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these stages, and links such as “Despite” and “Owing to this” show an attempt to connect ideas. Some connections are awkward or unclear, however. For example, “Despite of telling them many time thay are still doing the same” does not clearly identify who was told, and “As I mentioed before” refers to information that has not actually been stated earlier in the letter. The final paragraph also combines the request and closing without a particularly smooth transition. Use clearer references and more natural linking to make the progression feel less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the complaint, including “high volume,” “focus,” “sleep,” and “agency rule.” However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “appartment,” “bulding,” “agenacy,” “latter,” and “tenet.” Some expressions are also unnatural or unclear: “give the warrent to them” does not convey a clear agency action, while “at night hours” is less natural than “during the night” or “during quiet hours.” Aim to check spelling carefully and choose precise collocations for formal complaints. More accurate phrases such as “issue a formal warning” and “persistent noise” would make the letter sound clearer and more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, for example, “Owing to this loud music I am not able to focus” and “I thought there must be party as they move into new flat.” However, errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “when there is new tenet came,” which mixes verb forms, “I didn't took any action,” and “I am University student.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence construction in “Despite of telling them many time thay are still doing the same.” Work on consistent past-tense narration for the events, correct verb forms after auxiliaries, and article use. Shorter, carefully checked sentences would improve accuracy while you continue practising complex structures.
